Just returned from spending a week at this house and all I can do is repeat my wife's first comment upon entering..."wow". This is not a corporate rental, but a high quality house built and maintained by Dermot. It will quickly become "home".
It is located on the Shannon estuary--complete with beach for running, swimming, or building castles. The estuary is tidal, but doesn't have huge waves or rip currents--safe for kids. The view from every room looks out on the water.
The house has lots of space with wide halls and quality fixtures everywhere. there is a kitchen to die for--we spent most of our time hanging out there. There is also a separate living room with an electric fireplace that has a heater. Four BA, four BR with two of the ensuite.
Location sits between the small village of Ballylongford and the Atlantic beach resort of Ballybunion. Grocery is 5 minutes away. About an hour from Shannon. Off the beaten path, but worth it. We used it as a base for trips to Dingle, Killarney, Cork, and Dublin. The house would be great for a family with kids--lots of things to see and/or do. Also great for groups traveling together.
The owner, Dermot, is not intrusive, but nearby and very ready/willing to offer advice or assistance. He is proud of his house (and he should be) and genuinely appreciates those who choose to stay there.
You will not be disappointed...
We stayed here for a week on our honeymoon. We took day-trips each day and enjoyed coming back to the cottage to relax in the evenings. The morning sunrises were stunning, and this is a very peaceful place to get away.
The cottage is beautiful and well-cared for, just as the photos show. To be honest, it’s even nicer in person than in the photos, and is everything you would hope for! The large kitchen is well-furnished, plenty of bedrooms/baths, and the family room with fireplace is a terrific place to relax in the evening. The house is very clean and full of natural light, thanks to the walls of windows looking toward the beach and water. The patio is very nice, as well.
We enjoyed walking up and down the beach, and especially enjoyed seeing the horses on the beach. The day we left, there were horse races on the beach, which we unfortunately missed – Dermot (the owner) was kind enough to send us a couple photos of the action later that day, however.
Dermot is wonderful, accommodating, and willing to help and answer any questions you may have. We’re really grateful for his hospitality!! This is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the beauty of coastal Ireland, and we would love to stay here again someday!
