First up....... book in advance! We we’re staying in Moeraki over Easter weekend and naively thought we could walk-in and get a table for diner, how wrong were we. Fortunately for us they had received a cancellation as I was talking with the staff, after a few moments they asked us to wait for few minutes to make sure they could fit us in, that’s when Fleur arrived, and after a few words with her staff we were seated.

We started by sharing the mussels as a starter, they were divine. They were a good size, not the big fat ones, but smaller juicy ones. We all agreed that if that was the precursor to the mains we’re in for a treat, and we’re weren’t disappointed!

Mains followed, our son ordered the trio of fish, as did my wife, our daughter had the seafood chowder, with a (very large) side order of vegetables. Myself, I had the seafood hotpot. All of the mains were very generous in portion size, and what we feel was value for money.

When the wait staff came to remove our plates she was surprised to see the clean plates, but there was no way we we’re leaving anything behind, even to the point that my wife and daughter both turned down desert. Our comment to the staff when asked if we would like desert was we wanted to savior the flavors of the seafood in our mouths, rather than tainting them with desert, she applauded this.

WE WILL BE BACK!!!

We tried to book a table about 2-3 weeks in advance. No luck.
So we rocked up on the off chance they had a no show. It seems bookings are for inside but there are plenty of tables outside and the maître d said if we could grab a table outside then we were in. We did and the hours drive from Dunedin was well worth it.
Fresh fish was fantastic. Simply cooked but delicious.
Warning; the servings are huge. Go with an appetite or share. We had the fish platter for two between 3 of us and that was ample.
Wine list was simple but all encompassing and showcased great South Island wines.
Not to be missed.

Best fish restaurant in whole New Zealand ever. Portions are extremely big and super delicious. I've tried more types of fish than I did through my entire life.

Ordered 4 dishes and shared them between us. So much food! Very very generous servings. Every mouthful was a delight. The scallops were sinful they were so good, the mussels were huge and beautifully done, each piece of fish on the share platter was cooked to perfection, and the Kaimoana platter was a delight of different flavours and textures. The amount and quality of food made the bill very reasonable in my opinion. Staff were all very friendly, with one of the servers moving the scallop plate and the bread back to the centre of the table with a “don’t you dare let that sauce go to waist!”, brilliant, I love when the atmosphere is so relaxed the team can show their personalities. Beautiful food, beautiful location. We will definitely be back when we return to Dunedin. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
