Chervaix Cubas is a lovely small village where you can have great walks near the river or out in the country to build up a good appetite for the generous portions at Franca. The restaurant is bigger than you might expect and has a good atmosphere. The food is well cooked with a good range of options. if you don't speak French you probably do need to do a bit of research on the dishes on offer but it is all tasty! An all round enjoyable experience.

This is a regular haunt for lunch as the ambiance, the service and the quality of the food are consistently good. The menu is varied and offers very good value for money.

Best advice would be to go in hungry, as generally the portion sizes are very generous.

Good food at the right pace. Great value for money especially if you have the menu de jour. You need a smattering of French.

It was our last week so we opted for the 30€ menu... spectacular. It was very, very busy on a Tuesday lunchtime. A tureen of soup was placed on our table along with croutons. Help yourself to as much as you want! My dining partner then went on to have a trio of foie gras which was divine in every sense of the word. I inadvertently ordered veal sweetbreads as my starter and just about died and went to heaven at the flavour. We followed this with tournedos Rossini, the steak perfectly cooked 'a point' and I mean perfectly... beautiful sauce and delicatey cooked foie gras... a plate of delicious sauté potatoes placed between us. A veritable cheese shop of cheeses were offered followed by an ile flotante and chocolate cake... and coffee... and we had wine... and kir... it took 2 hours to get through and we didn't eat all next day! Fabulous, fabulousness and fabulous again. Only 89€ in total... the best food ever.

There are two restaurants in this little town and I have just left a review for the other, the Auberge du Pont, and as mentioned there, both restaurants are excellent in their own way.
Franca is the place for gourmets, gourmands and gluttons seeking the rustic bon viveur experience. There is a very nice outdoor eating area at the front of the restaurant set far enough back from the road for it not to be an issue.
The food was excellent and bountiful. Value for money tip no.1; if there are four of you at the table make sure you order both soups - vast self serve terrines arrive each more than capable of serving four (do not fill up on bread, there is a lot more to come!) The food is all very high quality; we had some beautiful steaks, veal sweet breads and for those daunted by the quantities the whole dorade is a good, lighter option.
Then comes the mountain to climb - half a dozen whole cheeses left at your table to help yourself. Nothing particularly exotic but all in excellent condition - goats cheese, a local blue, brie, camembert etc. and there is enough there for any cheese lover to stuff themselves to Mr Creosote (google it!) like proportions!
After a meal like that something light, like the lovely fresh strawberries (although there were a lot of those too!) or a creme brulee is the perfect finale.
Added to all that, the atmosphere and service were spot on and it felt like we had had a genuine rustic French eating experience. The waitress was one of those wonderful people who, although speaking little English (albeit ten times better than our French!) seemed to be able to comunicate with us perfectly well throughout the evening by a combination of broken English and hand gestures. The level of service was reflected in little things, like the tap water on our table being constantly replaced.
The meal we had was in the 30 Eur + bracket and excellent value - there is also a 13 Eur. menu which we did not try.
If staying near the town this is a "must try" for dinner and if passing through at lunch time you have a difficult choice between this and the Auberge du Pont (although they are not always both open on the same days).
