Summer stay with my family (two adults and 3 children) plus extended family. We stayed in The Bothy and the remainder of the family stayed in the Atrium Apartments.
Wern Manor is an amazing place, once owned by one of the regions slate barons. It's easy to see why the property is located where it is as the views are spectacular. The main Manor is a historic listed building and even had its own hydro electric power when originally built. The main house is surrounded by acres of gardens with plenty of room for children, dogs and tortoises to explore (yes we even took our tortoises).
The location is fantastic within Wales, with the main attractions of North Wales in easy reach, including the mountains of Snowdonia as well as the many fantastic beaches (Black Rock sands can be reached on foot). You can also visit the slate mine once owned by the man who originally owned the Manor. Porthmadog is down the road (easy walk or very short drive) for essential supplies including any walking kit needed to explore Snowdonia, Tesco's, Aldi etc and plenty of takeaway food including fish and chips, Indian and Chinese.
The apartments are spacious with plenty of parking and decorated to a high standard with cooking facilities including dishwashers, excellent bathrooms with powerful showers plus washing machine(s), TV and wi-fi. In short everything for an easy stay.
The owners are very friendly and if they have the time (they are a bit busy on the main house) may be able to show you behind the scenes of the Manor, which is listed and has a huge amount of history.
Although we travelled as a family with children, Wern would also make a great place for a couple wanting to get away and explore North Wales or just enjoy some peace and quiet in lovely setting.
Highly recommended and I'd imagine we'll visit again.
The Bothy is a wonderful, well-equipped self-catering cottage, offering comfort and complete relaxation, yet being only a very short drive to the nearest towns of Porthmadog (good for supermarkets), and Criccieth (good for seaside).
The property itself is located within a peaceful courtyard located to the rear of the Grade II* manor house (currently undergoing an interesting restoration programme). The manor house is private however the owners were kind enough to offer to take us on a tour of the house, which was truly fascinating and highly recommended! There are sitting out areas both to the front and rear of the cottage and there's also special access to a large grassed area in front of the manor house! We also did some lovely walks straight from the doorstep so no need to use the car. We can't wait to book again and may try for one of the Atrium apartments next time
