This was our third time at In the Stix! Every bit as magical as the first two trips. My two girls (now 7 and 4) loved getting in the hot tub and mummy and daddy enjoyed not hearing tablets and phones going off every 5 minutes.
It was great not just to get away, but to know that we were somewhere where social distancing from other holiday makers was easy and there was lots of open space to enjoy.
This time around we spent the entire trip on site and were never short of things to do; enjoying the scenery, board games, playground, stars and cooking on the wood fired oven and relaxing in beautiful surroundings.
Bliss! Already looking at October half term!
We go away for a long weekend every year to a different glampsite, so we have a lot of experience about what works and what doesn't. In The Stix ticked all the boxes and didn't let us down. A beautiful location in the Rutlandhsire countryside, complete with open fields, wild flowers, and a brook. Excellent amenities ranging from warm showers in our domes, fully equipped kitchens and comfortable furniture, to fun stuff like the hot tubs, a football pitch and a kids playground area. It's also close to some beautiful walks and running routes, taking in a couple of lovely local pubs. And two wonderful hosts in Alex and Darren who were helpful and attentive but not overbearing. Would recommend to anyone looking for a rustic but comfortable relaxing weekend away. (We were three families each with three kids up to age 15)
We spent 4 nights at In the Stix- 2 adults and 3 children (11,8 & 2) and all had a fantastic time. The pods were beautiful and really clean. Everything had been thought of and we didn't want for anything. The kitchen area was well equipped and had plenty of space for eating. We were provided with loads of wood for the burner in the dome, the pizza oven and the wood fired hot tub and didn't need to buy any extra. We also took advantage of the offer of a meal on the first night and would really recommend the chicken and chorizo ragu- went down well with all of us and perfect for the first night to avoid having to cook after a busy day. That said we really enjoyed cooking in the wood fired oven and lighting the hot tub and checking the temp and stiring the water was a lot of fun. Kids loved the play park and the football goals and enjoyed the space to run around and rides in the wheelbarrow. The host were really friendly and helpful and had obviously put a lot of thought into ensuring the covid measures were adhered too. This was really well done without it being it bring at all obtrustive. Loads to do in the local area, we took bikes and cycled around Rutland water. We also enjoyed a visit to Oakham and Stamford and the sculpture gardens at Burghley house. Disappointed not to make it to the local pub especially as it is in walking distance and it looked amazing, just too much to fit in during a short visit. Really hope to go back again soon.
Another lovely stay at In the Stix. The dome is incredible, so beautifully done and amazing attention to detail. The kitchen is so well stocked and spacious and I loved brewing my coffee and sitting in the sun in the morning. The kids enjoyed the hot tub and many many rounds of cluedo! We will be back!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, kids loved it from the moment we unloaded the car with the wheelbarrows to walk to our Dome. We were met on our arrival by Jane who showed us around and checked in on us throughout our stay, there was nothing more we needed but if there was Jane gave the impression that nothing would be too much. The surroundings are great, my youngest in particular loved the football field and play area and going across the stream as the light faded to walk around the side of the golf course. Its was lovely getting the fire roaring and all playing games in the evenings, gave us all a chance to reconnect without TV's or internet. The location was great, Stamford was lovely and there was always somewhere to visit for a few hours (as we didn't want to be away any longer!) Even the 'chores' were enjoyable - tending the fire, the wood fired oven and the hot tub were great experiences, or a trip to the Shepherds hut to change lanterns or get essentials. We'll visit again maybe in the summer, I can see this being a different experience again. Great place, thoroughly recommend.
