My group of 12 pax (teeanagers, late 30s, 40s, and 50s) stayed at Gopeng Rainforest Resort at Gopeng Malaysia from 30 Dec 11 to 2 Jan 12. We enjoyed the hospitality of the owners, David and Janice, very much. They went to great lengths to ensure that we have a most enjoyable stay. Janice is an excellent cook, and all of us over-ate! They also asked us to help ourselves to the endless supply of durians, rambutans and pudu-san, freshly obtained from their resort! Mango juice and durian cakes made by Janice were the best we have ever taken. They also brought us to Gopeng town to enjoy the famous food of the town - too many to state, but you can see them all in the video on you-tube. We felt very much at home and everyone feels really like one big happy family!

Before you think this is a eating only trip, I must tell you that we did adventure caving, water rafting, trekked Gunung Chante, enjoyed 'spa' at the waterfall, toured the tin-mining town to appreciate the history of the place, visited the nature reserve where even the birds and otters decided that they too will put up a perforamce for us. As if that is not enough, even 2 buffaloes decided they will come by to greet these 12 cityfolks from Singapore! The experience is not complete until we discovered that there were many 'hidden talents' in us when we got into the mood to 'party' through new year's eve with karaoke, dancing, games, jokes, etc... At 12 midnight, some people from a neighbouring resort capped our experience with fireworks display! What more can one ask for!

One more thing.... we were very pleasantly surprised that David knows so much about the history of the place, and we soaked in every piece of information he was filling us in on the Japanese invasion of Gopeng etc in the 1940s?

It is also a very satisfying feeling for me to be surrounded by mountains and forest, breathing fresh air and hearing the various sound of the cockerels, birds, cats, dogs, geese etc, including the lizards in the early morning, when one can just sit and soak in the beauty of nature, and watch the mist covering parts of the mountains. I found my 'peace', communicated with my God in the stillness of the morning, and revelled in the quiet time I spent in the resort compound while my friends struggle to wake up!!

When we trekked Gunung Chante, we are very comforted that David and jungle Leong are very conscious of safety. They ensured we do not hurt ourselves unnecessarily. When a member of our group found the trek too tough, David accompanied 2 of our friends down the gunung, but not only that, he took them to trek a gentler part of the gunung, so they too enjoyed the 'amended' trek and feel really great too! Jungle Leong made sure safety is foremost for the 10 of us still tackling the gunung chante, so when the going gets too steep and slippery, he will throw us a rope to help pull us up! We greatly appreciate that safety is always foremost in both David and Jungle Leong's minds. This is admirable! I respect them for being so responsible.

We enjoyed ourselves so much, we are returning to the Gopeng Rainforest Resort a couple of months later this year when we will also challenge ourselves to do the Trans Gopeng-Cameron trek!

Thanks again, David and Janice. My friends and I have never had such a fun-filled time before. The experience is totally great! See you guys soon.

Room tip: This is a rainforest resort, so expect accommodation to be rustic! Toilets and shower rooms are very clean though!
