“Too much water in my eggs florentine”

Came here for a light lunch. There's inddor and outdoor seating, but because of social distancing, the indoor seating is about 5 tables and the decor looked in need of some refresh. There was light rain, so I had to sit inside. Most of the menu is standard British fare. There are some international favourites on the menu, but I just went with the Eggs Florentine and a Latte.

I've had Eggs Florentine many times before and this was just about the most disappointing one ever. There was too much water left on the egg and as soon as I cut into the egg whites, the water flowed out soaking the muffin below. What should've been a lovely crisp texture mixed with soft eggs just turned into soggy chewy muffin mixed with eggs.

You can see from the photos just how much water was in the eggs. I also pointed this out when the waiter came to collect my dish, who claimed that water was normal. Erm .. no .. I don't think so. Years of eating this dish tells me the water should be drained properly before being served, and no it is NOT normal.

Both the Egg Florentine and latte very very average, with the former disappointing in the way it was served. TBH, I blame myself for not checking the reviews properly. There's such a mixed bag of ratings, it's inevitable that there's going to be good and bad days.

Never been before, driving through the town on a cold wet morning looking for a cafe, managed to park across the street, thought we would pop in and give it a go. Was met with a very warm welcome by a charming man who offered us hot drinks to heat us up straight away. Had a great breakfast of bacon, sausage, black pudding, beans, mushrooms, potato scone, egg and a slice of toast for only £6.50. Generous portion, piping hot, well cooked - what more could you want! Can imagine it would do a good lunch, the menu had a good choice all reasonably priced. Only drawbacks - the size of the room, with lots of tables quite close together so not easy for prams, and no public toilet. Cash only. But if we are in the area again and need a bite to eat we would certainly go back.

My daughter fancied a nice cake as a treat for after dinner so I went to Dell Anita's. I can't fault the staff and the welcome - both lovely. Bought a square of caramel shortcake, which was a decent size, and two slices of chocolate Tiffin, which looked delicious. Got them in a box to take away which was very welcome. Tried the cakes after dinner and was very disappointed indeed. The caramel shortcake was all right, but nothing that you couldn't make yourself. (It's my husband's favourite, but too sweet for me). My daughter and I tried the Tiffin and I am very sorry to say that it was inedible. The biscuit mix was dry and crumbly and the chocolate on top was really unpleasant thick slab of cooking chocolate, which, as you will know, is very fatty and lacks any chocolate flavour or content. They went in the bin, so not our best venture. The menu for food looks really varied and tasty so maybe we will try sitting in for lunch.
