We've stayed in a number of hotels and inns on Block Island over the years, and the Spring House remains our favorite. The hotel recently updated many of the common areas and rooms. The room updates have made a big difference. Where once there were chintzy florals and deep greens, the rooms are now more sophisticated feeling with neutral coastal tones (light blues, sand tones), the bed in the room we stayed in was extremely comfortable, and the updated shower was fantastic. We ate in the Bistro at the hotel, and are looking forward to our next chance to dine there. The meal started with warm bread with herb butter (herbs from their on-site garden), then balsamic calamari with spicy arugula, roasted eggplant (again, from their own garden) for me, and tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce for my husband, all of which were very good. The restaurant and bar staff were just as friendly as the front desk staff, and it was nice to be there at the end of the season when the entire island is less crowded. Looking forward to our next stay at the Spring House!

Beautiful property, clean rooms, but my wife and I (and most of the guests) were seriously troubled by the way they handled a wedding on site during our stay. There was zero communication from the hotel that a wedding would be taking place. My wife and I had a lovely day on the island celebrating our anniversary, and we returned to the hotel with a bottle of wine, ready to soak in the view from the iconic white chairs on the main lawn as sunset approached.

We were really disappointed to find out the entire hotel was closed except for the very back entrance. The staff was completely preoccupied with the wedding and it was clear that the guests took a back seat to all the things that the wedding required.

Most of our frustrations are aimed at the hotel’s inability to communicate openly and honestly with guests. Despite the main parts of the hotel being closed for a majority of our Saturday night stay, there was no acknowledgement of the inconvenience, nor was there any acknowledgement that they charged us full room fees despite severely limiting our access to the best parts of the property for the all important Saturday night portion of our stay.

The hotel is nice and in a great spot, but without any communication from the staff about the wasted night, or any gesture from them acknowledging the limitations of our stay, we can’t in good conscious recommend them. Steer clear: there are better options on the island, and surely ones that put guests first. This was a disappointment.

Just spent a relaxing weekend here with my husband. The Spring House is the perfect spot on Block Island. The view is amazing. The hotel room was cozy. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were nice. The bathroom was nice with a rain shower. The bar/restaurant had very good food and excellent drinks. Try the Blood Orange Cosmo and the flourless chocolate cake. We will be back, hopefully in the spring.

The Spring House Hotel has a lot of strong positives. The location is wonderful - 5-8 minute walk to town but you feel very removed from it up on the hill. The lawn is spectacular - you can lounge on the chairs, gaze out at the ocean, and revel in the view. The restaurant is very good - nothing stands out in particular, but everything is good. The drinks are pretty good too. The hotel has nooks and crannies that you can explore and hide from the lunch and dinner crowds - quiet spaces in bars, back porches, etc. We stayed in the main hotel and our room was clean and although not updated we so enjoyed the ocean breeze coming through our windows at night. A nice treat that there was a farmer's market on Thursday afternoon. We would definitely come back, probably next time with our kids. Stayed during the week in August without a wedding.

This is a lovely, old fashioned hotel on a beautiful piece of property overlooking the ocean. Our room was in the Mott House, just adjacent to the main hotel. We did not book an ocean view, but the view outside was quite nice from the second floor ( no elevator .) The room was small, but clean, comfortable, air conditioned, and well furnished. Bathroom was well appointed. We had a fantastic dinner on the back porch. We also enjoyed drinks on the front lawn. Perfect! Rooms are fairly expensive on Block Island, and this is not the place to stay if you you are looking for modern or trendy. We stayed on a Sunday evening,-- I 'm not sure I would want to stay here if there was wedding taking place on property. I would stay here again!
