This is a review of the restaurant, not the hotel.
You would not expect a restaurant of very good quality in this area, which is normally dominated by rural places to have a beer with your neighbors and to discuss events in the village.
However, the Hofwirt had the luck to be renovated and revived as part of Red Bull's "Projekt Spielberg", an initiative to finally do something for the region.
So the restaurant is in impeccable condition and ready to fulfill high expectations without losing its cozy appeal. The menu is not large, but features a range of down-to-earth as well as upmarket dishes. The vegetarian selection could be expanded, but the very friendly staff does everything to help you, and the kitchen is all too happy to modify their dishes.

If it had not been for a family with two loud and nasty little kids, we would have a wonderful experience celebrating my parents' 40th wedding day. I loved my pasta with fresh forest mushrooms, my sister had a beautiful river fish, and my parents went for something very robust and meaty (maybe to gain some strength for additional decades of marriage). Accompanying drinks were also very good.
Now I don't mind kids too much as long as they are well behaved, but my patience ends when they kick & scream & run around for more than an hour without a word from their parents. Finally one of them peed on the newly upholstered seat cushions - something the personnel treated with admirable composure and friendliness. But this really made me wish that some parents would stick with McDonalds instead of spoiling an otherwise great restaurant experience!
