Lovely location

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 26 Nov 2023
Average hotel, location for us was lovely on the edge of the forest with lots of footpaths and deer near road/trails.
Bad lay out of bathroom very tight
No tea/ coffee making facilities
Room small basic and oppressive
No fridge
Asked about a glass of boiling water and was told water not free there will be a charge
Date of stay: July 2023
Room Tip: Average hospitality experience a great shame as location lovely, remote and relaxing.
Trip type: Travelled as a couple

I arrived at the hotel around 4pm. The reception was very friendly the check-in process was very fast and effective. I was presented with a room on the 4th floor which could be accessed via stairs or an elevator. I opened the room to find dated decor but a spacious room for 1 person.

The bathroom was small and quite cramped it was stocked with towels. Shower gel and cups for water. The shower was clean but dated. The room was very warm as the hotel does not have air conditioning or provide fans within the room I asked at reception but they said they didn't provide them. It was 30 plus degrees so it made sleeping very difficult. There was no kettle or iron in the rooms which was disappointing for a 4* hotel. Overall the staff were very friendly but the hotel does need updating

Room tip: You must drive or have transport to get any food as the hotel is around a 45-minute walk from epe. If its warm weather bring a portable fan so you can sleep easy

Staff helpful and polite. Good breakfast with different times because of covid. When you join at a later time we experienced we had to wait 10 min. for croissants. The room was o.k. and clean. Easy to make biketrips from the hotel.

We stayed for a day in zwolle while travelling with our bicycles. No problem to store the bike safely. There is also a secure parking at the back of the hotel. The hotel is only a 5 min walk from the centre of zwolle. I would give it 4 stars if it would have aircon.

For non-Dutch speakers, don't use the English language part of the website, use the Dutch part with Google translate. This gives much more information and additional offers.
We booked a double room, as part of a 3 night all inclusive festive break, only to find we had been given a twin bedded room, with the beds pushed together. Given that we had specifically chosen the double room, this was not a good start. The receptionists were pleasant and helpful and got us a double room with a 120 cm bed, as opposed to the 140 cm bed we had booked. Best we could expect given how full the hotel was, but somewhat disappointing that we did not get what we booked.
This is where the bad news ends and is the reason why the rating is not excellent.
Customer service was excellent. All staff were engaged, customer focused and friendly. Even when we had a communication problem around tap water vs. bottled water, it was resolved quickly and in a positive manner.
Very happy with all aspects of the food. A good choice at breakfast, including a choice of runny yolk vs. cooked yolk on the fried eggs.
Evening meals were a set menu and therefore what was on the menu may not have been our first choice. That said, we were really happy with the flavours and the manner in which it was cooked. We tried new things and really enjoyed them.
The buffet brunch..... excellent. Biggest problem was there was too much and we just wanted to eat more. Good choice, good quality, good flavour.
The hotel is well located on the edge of a village with clear walking routes straight from the hotel.
Certainly on our list of good places to go for a weekend away. Strongly recommend.

We travel to the Netherlands twice a year and this hotel has been our go to spot for 15 years. Starting as a Golden Tulip hotel and then Prince Hotel it now is owned by the Fletcher Hotel chain. Unfortunately, Fletcher has not put a dime into maintaining the building and property.

Lobby is the same and with the restaurant, the most desirable areas in the hotel. When you walk down the hall to the rooms, you will see the stained carpet that is over 15 years old.

While the rooms are small and the bathroom even smaller, you immediately see the same worn furniture and stained carpet with no changes in 15 years. Showers need attention and the entire room needs updating.

Cleaning crew did not clean the large amount of hair on the floor behind the bathroom door. One evening, a huge pile of dirty sheets/towels were left in the middle of the hallway all night.

Food in the restaurant is average and service is slow. For a nicer meal take the path down the road a short stroll to Floor Brassiare Restaurant. Nice food and service in a relaxing setting.

We did rent two e bikes and the bikes were in very good condition.

Sadly, I do not see us returning until the hotel is updated.
