This hotel fell short in several areas. The range of food on the menus and at the breakfast buffet was very limited and the breakfast fried eggs were quite unpleasant after sitting under heatlamps for ages. The pool water was several degrees lower than it needed to be and they should install a retractable canopy instead of the fixed one to allow tge sun's heat to warm it up a bit. There are no facilities for getting a coffee before the dining room opens at 8am, not even hot water anywhere. The rooms were not made up until quite late every day, the earliest was 3pm and the beds had possibly the worst pillows I've ever had to use, lumpy and bumpy. The staff were pleasant enough, they were not particularly friendly or helpful but that would be as much our fault as theirs since we speak absolutely NO Portugese. I had asked for a room that wouldn't require a lot of walking because my mobility is a bit compromised but the room we were given was almost the furthest one from the elevator! There was a fridge in our room and I would have expected bottles of water in it each day but no, one had to buy the water from the bar or restaurant.

Just got back from staying at the casablanca inn monte gordo!!! It was so so peaceful and cool inside! The staff are calm and friendly and really enjoyed the buffet breakfast!! Full fry up or cheeses and meats and fresh fruit! Cereal and fresh breads!! Most of the time people were out at the beach so just me and my boyfriend round the pool!! Didnt have lunch or dinner here so cant comment on them but would defo stay again!! The only thing i needed was a kettlw and cups in the room and maybe a bigger fridge so i could fit wine and water in it lol ☺

Shame, shame, shame...

Have stayed here three times in four years & returned this time after staying in another hotel in the same town last year. First two visits were good, but this one none too memorable. When we arrived, it was really hot: high thirties, which is fine...it's why we go to the Algarve. It's also good to have AC in the room to take the edge off the heat from time to time. But ours didn't work... in fact, when turned on, it blew warm air into the room.

We contacted reception on the first day & were told it would be sorted. After three days(!) of no resolution, we got a tad miffed & made ourselves understood...
Enter Egor ( not his real name) the surly hotel factotum. He came up to the room, messed about with the AC remote, swapped the batteries with the TV( also kaput...) remote, looked bored with his lot & proceeded to jam a fag-paper packet in the AC outlet & pronounced with some satisfaction that it was fixed. But, as I pointed out, hot air was STILL blowing from the unit. He shrugged. As I didn't want to sour Anglo-Portuguese détente, I didn't press the issue. We were then offered another room, but as it faced south & nestled above a 'Sun-deck', we decided, as our room faced West hence only seeing Sun between two & five o'clock, we'd stay put! Not a great start to our stay...

Tried some breakfast on the first day, but didn't return for more: ruined bacon, rubber eggs, no fruit, little or no healthy option, etc. There are some great places to sample fresh juice & snacks just around the corner.

Then, one afternoon, while lounging by the pool, Egor (not his real name), the surly hotel factotum began scrubbing grime off the tiles above the pool's waterline. Said grime then descended to the bottom of the pool. I have to say, it's maybe not the best time to perform this task: surely an 'Out of hours' cleaning schedule would be better?
I can only think Egor( Not his real name) is related to the local mafia, or his family own this hotel...

It's a great shame this place isn't run so well any more. The admin-staff are pleasant & the rooms are kept clean to a good standard. What this hotel sorely needs is some inward investment to bring it back up to a decent standard...

Room tip: Take your chances...

Around 40mins journey from the airport but worth the journey. Monte Gordo is a gorgeous little resort with a fantastic beach. The hotel is just a 2mins walk from the beach. The hotel is very clean and all the staff are very friendly and helpful...including the cleaners!! The room was clean but a little dated and could do with a bit of modernisation (furniture etc) but had a small fridge, safe in cupboard etc. The bathroom was clean and the cleaners visited everyday to make the beds & deliver clean towels. Wifi is available in the main foyer downstairs....would be better if it was available in the rooms aswell. All in all, a lovely place to stay for a few days relaxation
