“Beautiful old town!”
Review of Osor Town Walls

Ranked #1 of 7 things to do in Osor

In ancient times, Osor was the capital of Cres and it is rich in history. It is a delightful stop-off place that we frequently visit on our way from Cres to Losinj. It is, of course, where the two islands meet, but it is so much more than that. Wander through the old streets, visit the church, especially when the music festivals are on in the summer, and you will not be disappointed. This is a quaint old town and a delightful place to spend an hour or two!

Very close to Osor are numerous archeological findings ( ancient city walls , the remains of public buildings with mosaics , based temple , house , cemetery ) . as a result of leaving a wide space ancient and medieval settlements . The walls are best seen outside the current places to camp Bijar on the beach .
I highly recommend a leisurely walk ( 20 minutes ) and a tour of the walls .

Town with stone walls around the place is always interesting. But people from Osor seem to be tired and they care for some houses, gardens, churches, sculptures and not for the wall. You can admire parts of the renaissance fortress. Interesting and older eastern part is hidden under grass, bushes and they don't care for tourists walking around without enough information. You get more on the exhibition in Mali Lošinj. Look at the picture,

Osor is a lovely town surrounded by town walls. The walls had a very important role in the history, because Osor is located on the island Cres and it is connected to the island Lošinj. It is a very interesting experience crossing the bridge from one island to another.

A visit to Osor is indeed a must if you are vising Cres and Losinj island. The village is very old, and you can breathe its history when you walk on the streets paved with stones polished during centuries.
Osor is probably older then Rome. The Romans have ruled it, then the Venetian Republic for many centuries, then Austrians, Italians and now Croatians.
You can read every step of this long history in each wall, stone and writing in the village.
Once a big town, now it's only a small village.
When you are on vacation in cres or losinj, don't miss to pay a visit to Osor.
