Went to dining room for dinner. What a disaster. Steak on menu but not available. Only meat was pork chop which was not edible. Spaghetti carbonara was served cold and returned for heating. A "blob of clag" on return. Once again not edible. A glass of red wine was ordered with meal which tasted like sour vinegar. We had booked two separate nights 9 days apart and after the first stay we decided to cancel with 8 days notice of cancellation. No apology for the dreadful meal and charged for cancelled night. Would not recommend this establishment. Breakfast was on par with evening meal.

Room Tip: Would not recommend

We stayed late October in this Hotel. When you walked into Reception it really took you breath away how big it was. Staff were extremely helpful. We were put on a top floor where the smell of mustiness prevailed Our room was large, clean, and the bathroom large and all marble. This has been once a beautiful art deco hotel, and is now in the hands of Chinese owners. Nothing has been done to restore it to its once beautiful grandure.
We found breakfast although seemed to be a lot, catered more for Chinese tourists not Australian. There orange juice was very sweet orange cordial. They did have fried eggs and toast so I bought some jam and took it down with me to breakfast so all was well. Staff are very pleasant, and all in all we enjoyed our stay.

We attended a wedding in this hotel and booked an overnight stay. This hotel is used extensively by local Phuket people for weddings and celebrations etc which is definitely a good sign. The service and food was excellent and the general decor was very good. This is a classy hotel with large staircases and overhanging balconies. It's a very central hotel for shopping and the area has a wide array of shops. The room allocated to us was comfortable and we had no complaints with anything. The hotel is not near any of Phuket's wonderful beaches but bus's, taxis and tuck Tuks are plentiful. Apart from standard cheap fares on the bus it is highly advisable to agree a fare with taxi and tuk tuk drivers before any journey. Please heed this piece of advice to avoid problems on reaching your destination.

The metropole is a hotel that has had its grandeur smothered by seedy love hotels and backpacking hostels. Sitting in the dining room you can see the reminense of its once grand past.

But the grandeur of its past has been overtaken by mouldy hallways, its windows covered in a greasy haze and bathrooms unattended. But dont let this put you off the place does have some good points and they are about the people staff is friendly and speak english quite well.

The pool is on the 4th floor but it looks like the 13th level of a horror hotel. The dripping of water in the background its delapidated and jts a shame. Because the pool appears to have been fixed and is a sparkeling jewel. It appears reviews in the past have been considered.

It is far away from the main hussle and bustle of patong beach and that too is a down fall. But as much as i want to crucify this place i cant its grandeur is not lost because of the staff. They try and keep a level of professionalism that is in line with grandeur of the past.

Its decline was due to the decline of phuket itself. I walked a meer 100 metres today and was heckled 20 times for a taxi and that is no exaggeration. Sex tourism has killed phuket a once jewel has now dripped. Many love it i for one hate it. If you have to come give the Metropol a go just to experiance it as a live in museum. The rooms are grand and imagine it as it once was.
