This must be a hidden gem in Rotorua. Wingspan gave us the opportunity to get very close to both new zealand falcon and morepork. Make sure you are there at 2pm to watch the flying display. We where lucky to see Rosie's first public flight and then a demonstration from Hisan.
Really is worth the short drive out. We will be going back.

Little place with a big focus on conservation of an endemic endangered species. Was great to see a place so educational. Highlight was the bird of prey show and getting to hold a nz falcon and learning about this amazing bird from a friendly and passionate staff member

Wingspan is a great place to go. If you head up there about 1:30pm you can look around the aviary and in the museum before the talk and flight demonstration at 2:00pm. Well worth the look and helping with education and rehabilitation of injured birds.

We loved being able to see all of the falcons in the aviary while we waited for the show to start. They are all so different and Hisan was such a character; flying right up to the mesh to check us out before flying away again. It turned out he was flying that day so we got to see him out of the aviary as well. Besides seeing him swoop after 'prey' the commentary was informative and interesting and afterwards people were given an opportunity to hold him which was very special.
It was a bitterly cold day so staff brought out blankets and even offered hot water bottles for anyone who needed extra warmth.
This is well priced at $20 for seniors and $25 for an adult and is such a unique attraction. we would happily visit again.

This is just an incredible place to visit. The centre is dedicated to saving injured native falcons and repatriating them or using them as breeding stock to increase the numbers in nz.
These birds are just beautiful and this is an amazing look into the lives of these incredible birds.
You can see them up close in the aviary and watch the aerial display daily. The museum is interesting too so add some time to go through it.
Wonderful, dedicated and passionate staff make this really enjoyable.
