“Romantic, lazy getaway”
Reviewed 23 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Me and my boyfriend really enjoyed our stay at the Casita Azulita. We were looking for a lazy week away from work to enjoy the last bits of summer in a nice and chilled atmosphere and this is exactly what we got.

The area is very nice and relatively quiet, the beach is full of nice little restaurants and bars, but no big hotels or anything like that. You have to walk only for about 1km to get from the house to the beach, but I would very much recommend coming with a car or renting one, at least if you want to do some proper grovery shopping, as the next bigger grocery store is in Conil (7km from the house).

The house was clean, tidy and generally well taken care of. The kitchen has all the appliances you need to cook your own food and there's a bbq in the garden which we made good use of.

Lisa and Dominic were really nice and welcoming. The picked us up from a beach restaurant as the place is a bit hard to find (not on google maps), gave us some nice tips about the area and generally left us in peace unless we needed anything. They also have a very awesome and super friendly dog, which they let us play with all day long. ;)

All in all, a wonderful and relaxing experience!

“Best holiday of our married lives”
Reviewed 17 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We had an amazing time staying in this villa. We live in London so have busy city lives and this provided the perfect escape from all that. Every morning we would take the short journey to the beach, swim in the sea, etc - I even found a yoga class I could join! And then we would do it all again in the evening to watch the sunset... The bars along the beach strip are really varied and interesting, as are the market stalls. And all the locals are so friendly.

My husband is South African and said it was the first place he has found in Europe that satisfied his desire for sun and surf. I am a writer and this place was also ideal for finding inspiration and the peace and quiet to get things done. The porch of the villa was my favourite spot for reading in the early afternoon when the sun got slightly too hot. We also made good use of the BBQ, which meant we stayed within our budget. There are two villas either side of ours but we still felt nicely secluded - the discreet wooden fences and positioning of all three villas provide exactly the right amount of privacy.

If you want a bit more action, Conil and Vejer de la Frontera are within easy reach by car or bike (7-10mins). But we only went once to pick up groceries, the rest of the time we felt we had everything on our doorstep. Our favourite end of the strip was by La Torre (which is where my yoga class was aswell). The bars and restaurants there were really good value for money.

A big thank you to Lisa and Dominic for such a wonderful stay - we will definitely be back again next year.

“Outstanding quality accommodation and perfect hosts”
Reviewed 27 July 2014 for a stay in September 2013

We stayed here last year (in the sister apartment) and could not have asked for more.

We wanted "get away from it all", and that's exactly what we found in el palmar. I almost dont want to write a review, because I don't want this little patch of unspoilt heaven to be discovered, but that would be unfair on Dom and Lisa (and Roosta the dog of course).

They have built three stylish little cabins which don't try to reflect "spanish" decor, which for us is a good thing. Just simple, high quality and very comfortable.

We had a well equipped. modern kitchen, big fridge (very helpfully stocked up by Lisa for us before we arrived), and powerful shower. Wifi is intermittent - because it just is around there - its a very rural area. We survived!

The walk to the beach through sandy scrubland was a pleasure (although take a torch if youre coming back at night) , and when we hired bikes turned into a 5 minute scoot to the amazing beach.

Don't expect loads of bars, cafes and nightlife. There are a few (even less out of season), and a basic supermarket which was more than enough for us. And I really wouldn't bother bringing "going out in the evening" clothes. - this is superchilled surfer land.

We had some great walks along the beach to Zahar and beyond - and a very very good (but rather expensive) lunch there. If you want a bit more liveliness, Conil isn't far

It can be a bit windy some days (this was the very end of September) but definitely not everyday - we got on the beach every day, and in the sea most days.

We moved onto Cadiz for a week, and I spend the first 2 days wanting to be back in el palmar...

“Fabulous! Top quality accommodation, peace & quiet and just 10 minutes from idyllic sandy beach”
Reviewed 3 October 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We spent a very happy month here in July/August 2013 and we couldn't have wished for more. Dom and Lisa (and dog Roosta) were very welcoming hosts and have created a lovely relaxed space with 3 wooden houses set in rural countryside. The houses themselves are well built, spacious, didn't get hot inside so OK without aircon. They have a well equipped kitchen, modern bathroom, comfy bedroom and a lovely wooden covered veranda for eating out and lounging in the Spanish heat.
Practical things - its a 10-15 minute walk (depending on how fast you walk and how many beach chairs, umbrellas and ice boxes you are carrying!) across scrubland to the main beach. The main beach is lively with Spanish families, there are quieter beaches nearby. There is a supermarket, butcher and fishmonger in the village so amenities on hand but you really need a car to get the best out of this area.
Our hidden gem was the sculpture park at Montenmedio Golf club a 15 minute drive away. Its barely advertised and there are some outstanding large scale works of art.
