We spotted the castle from the road and were excited to see what was inside. We waited 20 min for lunch hour to end and paid the two euro each plus one euro for the brochure and were very disappointed. The castle is impressive from the outside and the views are breath taking but once inside the lack of information regarding the history and the astonishing amount of knats (flys) buzzing about took away from any enjoyment of the castle. The rooms were completely bare so no idea of how the were used in the 16th century and each floor was more of the same...empty and filled with knats. Even the view from the top was not much better than the one from the ground. Worth the drive up but stop there.

A nice small village and an important site for the history of Portugal, whre one is able to follow, through the rooms in the small castle, the stpes of Pedro Iv and Miguel at an important meeting that put an end to a civil war. Nice architecture, wonderful view of the surroundings, fine small village around the castle.

Legacy from the Braganç dinasty, this is a beautifully preserved castle.
The columns and ceilings follow the Manuelino style with a twist. It is a great venue for photography lovers, especially from the top where miles and miles can be seen 360 degrees around.

If you want to have lunch, you should leave Evoramonte, turn back to Vimieiro and have lunch in Restaurant Moagem Antiga. There is also a museum that may be visited.

This is a very, very pkeasant obe day trip.

We walked here from the village below, walking up the roadway. Very steep but worth the walk. Pretty village with an artisan shop half way down the street. Lovely

A beautiful castle in the top of a hill with amazing views. The main building is unique. Different from all the others in Portugal. Worth to visit if you are somewhere between Estremoz and Evora.
