“Live like a Local”

We “lived like locals” for a week at Casa de los Viajeros in a pretty residential neighborhood 3 blocks from the Town Square and 2 blocks from the Beach. We stayed in Suite 3, which is an 800 square foot 1 Bedroom/1 Bath apartment uniquely laid out on 2 floors, which made it feel very spacious. There were 7 modern screened windows we could slide open to feel the breeze, as well as our balcony door - the cross ventilation was excellent. A ceiling fan on each floor was a special bonus. The unit was quiet, fully equipped, nicely decorated, extremely well-located, and came at an exceptionally low price. (A week at Casa de los Viajeros was less than we’ve spent for a single night at places in the Caribbean!) The bed was comfortable, and there were plenty of modern electrical outlets and light switches everywhere. There was even special recessed lighting on the stairs to the 2nd level, which we used as a deluxe nightlight. Upstairs there was a large corner with wire shelving, plenty of hangers, and a full length mirror which we used as a dressing area. We rented from Rob and Joanne, who live on the premises and own a bookstore in town - so they’re always nearby if you need their help. They are both very friendly, extremely nice people, and are very accommodating to any special needs. Rob even provides a large notebook in the suite filled with detailed information on things to do in Puerto Morelos.

“Great place to stay in”
Reviewed 28 April 2014 for a stay in December 2013

Where to start... everything was perfect, the apartment was very comfortable, knit and clean. Rob the owner, is a very nice person, knows the place very well and gave us very useful tips and recommendations to fully enjoy our trip. The location of the apartments couldn't be better, close to the best beach and to the city center but in a very quiet spot. I highly recommend La Casa de los Viajeros.

“Feels like home, but better!”

We had a wonderful stay!
Everything was as described in the unit, and we loved the convenient location. Strolled to and along the beach, to town and through the surrounding neighbourhoods.

We appreciated all the extra details and information provided by the owners. Our visit was enhanced greatly by the thought and care they have put in to their property.

Loved the breezy patio and the comfortable bed! We felt relaxed and well rested from our stay here. Just what we needed - thank you!

“8 Days At Home in Puerto Morelos”
Reviewed 15 July 2013 for a stay in September 2012

First, the owners sent a plethora of information about the apartment, town, and local attractions (including maps) well before our trip so we were more than prepared for what to expect for these 8 days.

Before coming to PM we spent three days in Valladolid. We drove our rental car to PM. My hubby was just getting over Montezuma's Revenge when we arrived and the caretaker met us there less than 5 minutes after we arrived. The caretaker is a fantastic lady who took care of our every need.

We had gone on Google Earth and located the building before our vacation so finding it was no problem. We drove straight to it as though we had lived there our whole lives. Would recommend that to anyone who is renting an apartment for vacation, regardless of where.

Upon walking into the apartment I was shocked that it looked so much better in person than in the photos. Not that the photos look bad.. but this is just one of those places you actually have to see in person to fully appreciate. It is on the 2nd floor and the balcony/patio is HUGE and the view is awesome... not just that you can see the ocean.. but every bit of structure and nature around is quaint and beautiful. Even the small hotel across the street makes for a beautiful view. Terracotta tiles cover the floor inside and out. (I am a huge fan of terracotta) The breeze coming through the windows smells like the beach.. fresh and salty and coconut and pineapple.

The kitchen and counter tops are larger than they look in the photos as well and they got used a lot, as we shopped at the market in town and across the highway in the "non touristy" area where we found fresh chicken and pork, fresh fruits and veggies.. and by "fresh" I mean killed/picked the same day you buy them. It was so nice to be able to prepare meals from local vendors while on vacation instead of always being stuck with whatever is on a menu. For 8 days we felt as we actually lived there.

We were a two block walk from a beautiful stretch of the Mayan Riviera with white sand beaches and blue water. About the same distance to the cleaners/laundry/lavanderia and a few more blocks to restaurants and bars.

The only issue I had, and it was clearly MY issue and not the issue of the owner or property manager, was that my northern Missouri self was not as comfortable without air conditioning as I thought I would be. The days were fine but the first hour after going to bed was rough. I expressed this to the caretaker however and she immediately got us some extra fans! What a great lady! After the first hour, though, the cool breezes and beautiful midnight storms cooled the bedroom room fantastically and because we were on the 2nd floor we felt perfectly safe leaving our windows open all night.

If an air conditioner is a MUST for you.. they do have an apartment with one. Just let them know! I didn't think I would need it but I guess I am spoiled rotten to my central air.
