My husband and I spent the most fantastic and tranquil week at Villa Karina with four great friends! Everything about our vacation was perfect along with all who made it that way: owner Maria, villa manager & concierge extrodonaire Dora, housekeeper, groundskeeper, masseuse Gabriela. Dora.... we cannot say enough. She truly wanted us to have the best experience and she succeeded. I don't think there is any task too small for her to tackle. The Villa is amazing & beautiful - with very comfortable beds! Puerto Morelos is an easy 15-20 minute walk along the ocean to the square. The people of PM are great. They were very helpful and truly appeared to enjoy us in their community. There are a few all-inclusive resorts in the area but why would someone prefer to stay with hundreds of others when they could stay in a home of their own? There is also a clothing optional resort a couple of doors down which just added to our adventure --- it wasn't like they paraded in front of Villa Karina (to each their own). At the end of our weekend escape, we were amazed by how little money we spent total on food at the grocery store, food at restaurants, tips, taxi, and beverages/alcohol (beverages every day ??. We had spent $385 per couple for the week for all of these things - and we didn't hold back. We truly had the best week ever....I'm ready to go back!!!
We just returned from an amazing 10 day family vacation at Villa Karina. The property is more beautiful than the pictures.
First of all location, the villa is located in Puerto Morelos, which is about 20 min south of the Cancun airport and 10 miles north of Playa del Carmen. This location is perfect; we are from Texas and frequent Cancun area about 4 times a year and so far this was the perfect town for our family. It is a small fishing town where everyone is very friendly and helpful. The villa is walking distance to town (about a mile walk down the beach) - great exercise and only takes 20 minutes walking normally. We had a few older family members with us so we opted to take taxi's most of the time (cheap 50 peso's one way and they arrive in no more than 5 minutes). The villa - 5 bedroom, 6 bath beautifully decorated and updated private home. Each bedroom had it's own private bathroom, which is a must for us. The downstairs of the villa had just recently been updated and is beautiful. Each bedroom also had great decorations and bed's were comfortable. We only had two small issues with home, but Dora the property manager had someone over within 30 minutes to take a look and had fixed asap. The kitchen had everything a cook would need to make any meal as well as some basic's to get you started. The villa even has a roof top area to relax and watch the stars, very relaxing
Property Manager Dora - what made the vacation even more special was the attention to detail and great care Dora took of us. She contacted me 1 month prior to arriving to discuss and book all transportation from airport, suggested and booked tours, booked a chef to come cook for us one night (one of the highlights, was so yummy!) She called daily in the morning to check on us and to be sure we didn't need anything. Services, the villa had a housekeeper come daily except Sunday's (we actually requested she not come everyday as we wasn't in the house many days and wasn't dirty), the gardener comes daily to rake the beach and take care of the grounds, as well as a pool boy whom came about 3 to 4 times to take care of the pool maintenance. Each of them didn't bother us at all and very friendly.
The owner Maria was very responsive when booking house as well as 1 month prior to ensure I had everything needed prior to the trip.
Excursions - a few must's while here. 1st and was our favorite was the "Joya" show by Cirque Du Soleil. We booked the vip dinner show which included pre-act's and drinks as well as an amazing dinner prior to the show. I would suggest to anyone to book the vip dinner as the meal was one of the best meals and experiences we have ever had and we travel a lot, also gets you the best tables for the show. Snorkeling wasn't that great when we were there, but head the diving is the way to go when here. We are divers but with family this trip and wanted to stay with the group so didn't dive. Daytrip to Tulum was great and Dora suggested not going with a tour instead we hired a driver for 9 hours to take us down and back and when to the ruins, had a great lunch then visited the grand cenote. This was a great option as you get to make your own schedule and change things as needed, like we asked driver to stop in Playa on way home for ice cream. Rest of the trip we really just relaxed at the pool and beach at the house, walked up and down the beach and really enjoyed just family time.
Restaurants, First on our list was hands down Dora's restaurant (John Gray's) we actually ate there twice that is how wonderful it is. We had the fresh catch both times and felt like we were in a 5* restaurant in new York with the flavor's and presentations. Also this is the only place that we could get a real margarita! buzzed off of just one - that's how a margarita should be unlike the water downed ones elsewhere. Second choice was the Greek restaurant "La Sirena) we ate there twice as well for lunch and their spicy feta dip is great! We also ate at elNicho once for breakfast - it was good but not sure we would go back, easier for us to just cook at villa in morning rather than getting everyone to get moving. My little Italy has great pizza and dessert - we got take out one night for a Cowboy's game. Last place was Al Chimichurri - it was good but not as good as John Gray's.
There is not one thing that me or my family disliked about this villa or the vacation in general - was one of the top vacations so far and looking forward to coming back soon!
We stayed at Villa Karina for ten nights in late October 2016. The Villa is exactly as advertised. The patio and pool are beautifully decorated and very private. There's a great view of the ocean from the patio, but people walking by on the beach can't see in. Enrique raked the beach each day and Francisco kept the pool clean. The housekeeper kept the house immaculate.
The Villa is beautifully decorated and there are great views from the balcony off the master bedroom and from the rooftop deck. The A/C kept the Villa comfortable.
Dora arranged a private dive for us and also for a snorkel boat to pick us up at our beach and take us to the reef for a guided snorkel. It's a short 25 minute walk down the beach to Puerto Morelos where there are many restaurants and a market for groceries.
Dora was very helpful in planning our trip and was our private concierge once we arrived. She arranged for Danny to prepare dinner for us at the Villa one evening. Another night she got on the phone with our lost taxi driver to guide him back to the Villa. And she restocked our groceries mid-way through our stay.
We recommend bringing water shoes if you plan on walking in the ocean. Taxis arrive within minutes, but tell your driver that you're staying at Villa Karina on Calle Carey. Finally, there's WiFi in the Villa, but high-speed internet hasn't yet reached Puerto Morelos.
We had a great vacation and would recommend Villa Karina without reservation.

Our favorite Beachfront Villa. This rental has it all inside and out , top to bottom. We first stayed at Villa Karina (1 week ) after Hurricane Wilma , what a mess......all around Villa Karina , the Villa held up well , I say this because , we were amazed at how well the villa was built. The original Owner Had a very good eye for Design and furnishing's , a nice blend of wood and marble. There 's a great view from every room . The grounds and pool are top notch and private.
