We have stayed at this accomodation each winter for a number of years now. I always give honest & sometimes critical reviews as nothing annoys me more than trying to have a nice getaway & finding that it's not what you expected. The lodge was literally built by Philippa & Joe & it is beautiful. They are very warm & friendly hosts. The rooms do have cobwebs sometimes but that is a reflection of where this accomodation is- in the middle of beautiful wilderness. It also has wild parrots & other birdlife that regularly visit the property. It is lovely to sit by your own fireplace each night having a few drinks after a spa whilst listening to the sound of the river. If you are planning a trip to Barrington, we believe that this is the best part. This accomodation is right on the border of the national park. The walks are spectacular. Ask Joe about 'the corker' if you like a challenge with amazing views. Otherwise, if you're not up for that, there are beautiful picnic areas. If you want to unwind in a truly memorable place, stay here. My partner Lisa & I regularly do, & this year we'll be bringing our new baby too.

We stayed here back in June 2009 and loved it.
We had booked the restaurant for both nights but for some reason (can't remember right now) we couldn't eat there the 1st night, so they upgraded our room to the spa cottage, gave us a menu and bought the food to us!
The room was cosy. The bed wasn't very comfortable but the rest of the room made up for it. The fireplace was a lovely touch and the spa was amazing and big enough for 2 ;-P
The scenery was perfect and we went on quite a few walk through the bushes in the rain. T he bridge on one of the bushwalks was the perfect spot for a wedding proposal and something I will remember forever.
We ate at the restaurant the 2nd night and the food was AMAZING!!! I would travel that distance just to eat there again!

Salisbury lodge was more than we ever expected .... beautiful, peaceful and serene..... this the perfect place to get away from the outside world and relax... Phillipa and Joe are 1st class hosts and nothing was too much trouble although we didn't need anything as everything we could possible want was waiting for us... The bush walks... the swimming hole ... the wildlife are all spectacular. Plenty of information is available on all the various bush walks and other activities in the surrounding area although we hadn't come here to do any of those things we just wanted some time out and that is exactly what we got. Our accomodation in the Williamson lodge was excellent and we have no hesitation in recommending a stay here for anyone wanting to get away from it all. ..... we will be back :) ( i will be adding some photos soon.

Despite wet weather all weekend, we enjoyed great food and hospitality. Philippa and Joe were great hosts and directed us in our exploration of the area - winery and olive grove visit one day, easy and accessible rainforest ramble in the rain the next. We'd booked to go horse riding as directed from their website but this was cancelled due to the weather.
Yes, you need to book dinner in the restaurant in advance, but they opened it on the Sunday night for just 3 couples.
We stayed in a Deluxe spa room - the website declares it to be "cosy" - it is, but we still found lots of very European style nooks and crannies to store our stuff.
A previous review found the hot water wanting, but we had more than adequate, extravagantly hot water for showers in the morning and a wonderful hot spa in the evening.
So much did we enjoy our visit, that we plan to return with our extended family in tow - we need to celebrate the chance to share in this particular piece of wilderness paradise.

The road there and back has some really lovely scenery. The website has precise instructions on how to get there -- best to print them out and follow them, the only place we had to stop to ask was Dungog itself (easy enough!).
We stayed in the deluxe spa room (the only room that does not have a minimum 2 night stay at the time of booking), which was comfortable and had all the amenities we needed. Some other guests may have reported it small but as it is nearing winter, small was also cosy, and the spa tub was big enough! The lodge is right on the edge of a nice bushwalk (lodge owner and lodge guide have excellent anti-leech advice!), while the lodge grounds themselves are very pretty (you drive over a picturesque bridge to get there).
The Araluen food is excellent, the lodge owners and their apprentice all great hosts -- a night to remember!
