If you are looking for glitz and glam with swimming pools, gyms, lots of mirrors, manicured gardens and cocktails Salisbury Lodges are not for you. The lodges are not new and modern but are at one with the beautiful Barrington Tops and work absolutely in their environment. Everywhere is lovingly cared for and maintained. We went for total rest, relaxation and getting some balance back into our life and it worked. I discovered my love of reading and crossword puzzles after being enveloped by the tranquility of the area. The only sounds are the birds, the chooks and the Williams River gurgling over the rocks. There are plenty of bushwalking and drive options if you are that way inclined.
And what about those little things that count? Extra towels were already in the bathroom (double the usual number), there was the ring holder on the sink, the fresh native flowers on the table, the HUGE crochet rug to wrap around you while you sit out on the balcony and just take in the views, the electric bbq on the balcony, candles, fantastic reading lights beside the bed, lots of hot water, a great spa and a well stocked 'mini' kitchen with enough pots and utensils to cook any meal.
This all works because of the hosts Phillippa and Joe. They are certainly pros at what they do. This all works because of the hosts Phillippa and Joe. They are certainly pros at what they do. There is just the right balance of stopping for a chat, providing local information, checking you are okay - or staying out of your hair. We took the option of having our breakfast and dinner provided each day - what a windfall that was. Phillippa is truly an extraordinary cook/chef. We chose each morning what we would have for dinner - either 2 or 3 courses and every one of the 8 dishes we ate were SUPERB. The vegetables were "the icing on the cake" at each meal.
Breakfast each morning was outside our door in a beautiful basket with fresh eggs and always a number of treats. There were Easter eggs and Hot X Buns each morning over Easter and enough food that we could always make something up for our lunch.
Two of the evenings we were the only guests and it was cold so Joe brought each course to our room - piping hot and freshly cooked. He checked before hand what wine (great wine list) we wanted and had it opened - and the white linen table napkins accompanied the meal.
Two special touches - on one of the evenings there were huge storms forecast with massive hailstones (They didnt eventuate) but Joe organised for the two guest's cars to be put under cover and then the last evening it had turned really cold and he turned up to see if we needed the fire lit.
Did I enjoy my stay? The morning I was leaving I wished it was the 1st day not the last.More
