We enjoyed our stay in Malta and on the whole, the flat looked like the pictures. It was spacious and comfortable and we were able to make some use of the pool, although the wind did lessen our use of the pool. Although in some ways the location of the flat was a bit out of the way, as we were not desperately seeking a noisy night-life, it wasn't a problem. I think we preferred being on the three cities rather than some of the heavily built up areas like Sliema or St Julian's. This did mean that a visit to one of the small grocery shops in Valetta is a bit of a trek. A bus ride to centre of Valetta takes about 35 minutes. Its about the same if you walk to the ferry and go across the bay.
Paul who manages the apartment on behalf of Simon was very efficient in organising pick-ups and in trying to sort out the problems we had with the flat. leo the owner came over on a couple of occasions. During our week, the power in the flat blew out twice because of a faulty kettle and a fault with the immersion heater. For two days we did not have hot water for showers and two faulty kettles (the first replacement for the faulty one had a fault!) - that's quite a lot for one week. Oh and there was the bathroom door-handle that kept coming off because the screws have fallen out! I suspect that some of the faults may have occurred before.
Although the flat is very spacious and comfortable, Simon the owner has not gone overboard on kitchen and dining equipment! There is a miscellany of wine glasses of all shapes and sizes with about two the same. The kitchen knives are pretty poor quality. The cutlery is OK but it is pretty cheap. There are no small saucepans. There's a shortage of serving dishes. For what is essentially a nice flat (if everything is working) it's a shame not to have decent quality glasses and cutlery. I think one of the previous users of the flat also commented on the quality of the utensils etc.
Overall, I can't in all honesty say that these problems spoiled the week's holiday, although they were a nuisance and not at all what we had expected. Some guests would have kicked up a fuss about the power cut outs and the other problems. We did suggest that Simon might want to make a small refund because of the various hassles we had but the request was ignored!
We have just returned from a week's stay. Apartment was fantastic, spotlessly clean. Fabulous view from small balcony off lounge - lovely having a morning cuppa!. Pool was brilliant and views exceptional. Quite a quiet area (which we knew beforehand), but bus service good. Everything from booking to checking in was perfect and Paul was on the other end of the phone for any queries and Rosette who met us was lovely. Area is quite hilly so not suitable for people who have mobility problems and you do really need a car for provisions if you like to eat in (as we do). All in all had a fantastic stay would highly recommend and would definitely stay again. Two negatives - if you can call them negatives - kitchen could have had a few more smaller pans and accessories for when you want to eat in and towels were a bit passed their best and could have done with a few more rather than have to keep washing them ( but that's just me being fussy).
Lovely apartment in Kalkara, what you see advertised is what you get.. lovely inside and out. Very spacious, clean and a very cosy sofa
Transfers were spot on, lovely driver and very informative, rep on greeting and leaving was lovely also and again very informative.
Views from balcony and pool were perfection.
Would reccomend. The pool area was kept immaculate as was the pool. A very welcome addition for the September humid weather
