We drove past the pub on out way to Ilfracombe one day whilst staying in the area. Thought it looked like a nice pub, so called up and booked a table.

On arrival there were no parking spaces in the car park so we followed a fellow arrivee and parked across the road, not ideal if we're honest.

We went inside and we're shown to our table, it was a squashed table in the corner, but it was a table so we can't really complain about that!

Our waitress arrived promptly to take our drinks order, all was going well. Ordered our food, which arrived quickly as well and was delicious..

The table was eventually cleared and dessert menus offered. Then the hard work was undone as we waited, and waited for our dessert order to be taken. Various staff walked past us and even appeared to look over, but maybe being sat in the corner we were overlooked. Finally a waitress appeared, at the point we were considering getting the bill as we'd had enough. The desserts were lovely, good portion, can't fault them.

But then we had to wait and wait for someone to bring the bill and then take the payment.

What could have been a lovely evening was just marred by the lack of service.. The food was fab, we'd be back for that, but please train your staff up to be more attentive to their customers. On a few occasions my hubby spotted our waitress chatting at the bar, while we were waiting!!! Yes it was Good Friday evening and yes the place was busy, but that's not really an excuse.. The staff should be able to cope!

Went tonight with some friends for a rare celebration, five of us.
We phoned shortly before arriving & managed to get a table, upon arriving there were some "walk ups" waiting but we were showed straight to our table.
The place was very busy but our waiter arrived promptly and supplied menus & took our drinks order, everything else went well, no serious delays of any kind and no dramas.
The food was really good, the brisket is so tender & full of flavour, chicken wings nice & spicy, the burgers are really good too, nicely presented and nice sweet potato fries & coleslaw to accompany.
They do get very busy & like all busy restaurants, sometimes service slows down a bit or mistakes get made, just bear this in mind & be nice to your server :-)

Good range of options on menu. Fab burgers and ribs. Staff were really helpful accommodating my autistic son and seating us in a quieter area - makes all the difference that we can then go out as a family. Thank you.

Good food and roaring fire on a chilly night. Friendly service. Right by the river so would be lovely in summer

Fantastic setting, lovely and clean, great food, great choice of beer and very friendly staff... was staying in Combe Martin but was worth a 5 minute drive in the opposite direction
