Montecristo is beautiful and the government has really been making an effort and making it better every year. There are many hikes available and you can choose depending on your skill level. There are plenty of places to picnic during the week but it can get crowded on the weekends. I have not stayed in the cabins but those are now available as well. Make sure you stop at the view points along the way up.
