Stumbled across this basement restaurant and we were lucky to be seated without a booking. The atmosphere of the restaurant is cosy yet not cramped and the open kitchen added a little theatre, and wamth, to the evening. The menu is not overly large or complex, yet the range of offerings will satisfy most. The meals we chose were both generous in proportions and of a high standard. The home made cured meats platter is very good, particularly the Jamon and Mortadella whilst the prawns were excellent. The beef short ribs that were roasting looked very appetising - we just didn't think we could get through them. Maybe next time. Wines available by the glass is a little limited, yet what we selected turned out to be very nice so perhaps it is a case of substance over variety. Service, when it arrived, was very good, however it was obvious that the team still have some way to go in ticking off this box. Overall, a lovely meal in very pleasant surroundings.

We booked here for a team work incentive for work, it was all really nice but nothing amazing or different that would make me want to come back. It was good shared dishes, nice venue/atmosphere and service though so I don't have any negatives. Dulce de leche ice cream with butterscotch & candied bacon was a highlight!!

Saturday night out with friends. A little on the formal side, but great venue and the food is very good. Share plate format, we had haloumi, scallops, ocean trout, wagyu tongue, and suckling pig. Followed by candied bacon ice cream and rose meringue, washed down with excellent tempranillo selected with help of staff from their good wine list.
All the food very good, mostly made or butchered in house, and the care over the ingredients shows.

There was some delicious food, eg, the wonderful foie gras parfait, the amazing porchetta crackling and the intensely powerful carrots. However, there were also some misses, including the weirdly bland wagyu tongue and the cloyingly sweet haloumi, fig and honey.

Mandarin, pear, lemonade

Smoked wagyu tongue, salsa verde, horseradish
(...very little smokey flavour; rather bland - had to eat spread with the foie gras parfait...)

Foie gras parfait, pickles, toast
(...deliciously rich flavour, perfectly seasoned...)

Grilled haloumi, fig, honey
(...overwhelmingly sweet...)

Spit-roasted porchetta
(...huge portion with very generous crunchy crackling, gravy and scrumptious home-made chilli sauce...)

Roasted carrots, almond dukkah, tea-soaked currants
(...wow, such a complex interplay of flavours...)

Dulce de leche ice cream, butterscotch, candied bacon
(...decadently sweet, ending on a salty and smokey note from the bacon...)

Ate lunch here last Friday as part of a group of three guys. This was my second visit, the first being some months ago. The food quality, portion sizes and variety of dishes was very good. The service was also good given how busy the lunch service was. I will return.

Thank Stephen P
