Description: Tetsuya's serves a ten course degustation menu. The degustation is unique, based on the Japanese philosophy of using natural seasonal flavours, enhanced by classic French technique and utilising the freshest possible ingredients. Tetsuya designed his own on-site "test kitchen" within the restaurant to enable him to create the constantly evolving and inspiring dishes on which he has built his esteemed international reputation. Tetsuya's offers one of Sydney's most comprehensive wine lists and our sommeliers will, upon request, match the dishes with wine available by the glass.

The food, venue and service were impeccable. The wine list, though quite long, is not impressive. The mark-ups are too high (sometimes 300+%) and they no longer have the mantle for 'world's best BYO restaurant', as they don't offer it any more. The selection of dessert wines is poor. Having studied the wine list in advance, the best we found was $380 but somehow it was $750 on their on-site wine list. Far too much! But we weren't impressed by the 'matching wines' - price, quantity, quality or suitability - last time, so had our second choice. As I said, really excellent food - quality of ingredients, combinations of flavours and preparation. Fabio, our waiter, was brilliant as well. We opted for the oysters as an extra starter, and they were superb. Every course, and plenty of free 'inclusions', was delicious. We couldn't fit the cheese extra later, so well-proportioned quantities - though probably light for big eaters. Unfortunately, we were truly shocked to be told the coffee was from a pod machine. This really is unforgivable at this level. When we complained, we were given free coffee to see if we could be 'converted'. It was as good as this stuff gets, but thin and characterless. We think Tetsuya's is worth the money, but needs to rebalance its wine list (and reduce some of the phenomenal mark-ups) and possibly offer some a la carte options for people who might come regularly.

My Wife and I are in the Tourism Business in Dublin Ireland
We are visiting Australia for our second time in 2 years
We love Japanese food, so we decided to treat ourselves and booked what we thought would be the ultimate experience in Tetsuyas
The first surprise was that there was not one Japanese person on the staff .
This we feel is very unusual in a genuine Japanese restaurant and was the main reason for the very austere atmosphere.
The food certainly was good but no better than any other reasonably priced Japanese restaurant.
The brought the wrong year wine we ordered and hoped we would not notice.
Several times we had to ask for more bread
Overall it was not the experience we expected and the crazy prices charged did not come near our expectations of what we imagined when we decided to treat ourselves , we can only assume that this is a restaurant living on its past reputation certainly not in today’s real world , and is very bad value for money
Don’t get fooled like we did .
