We stayed for four nights in the Homestead. There were 8 adults and we had a ball. We cannot speak more highly of the hospitality and the welcome that we got from Sophie, Sean,David and Allie. The house is huge and has all the facilities needed for a group. There are plenty of activities you can do here such as walking, driving to Artlunga or the challenging drive into Ruby Gap. We self catered for some meals but for 2 nights Sophie and Allie produced delicious home cooked meals. Their coffee and cakes are die for.
Even though it rained for one of the days there are plenty of books, games etc to keep you occupied.
For our group this was a truly memorable and unique holiday In the Outback.

We have been living in Alice Springs for 8 years, and we are kicking ourselves that we have only just 'discovered' this amazing getaway! Only a couple of hours drive from Alice, on a road that has recently undergone an extensive upgrade, and we arrived at what we have earmarked as our future 'getaway' when in need of a change of scenery. We had booked The Cottage for three nights, and as soon as we walked in the front door, we immediately relaxed into what would prove to be the most enjoyable experience. The Cottage has been recently very tastefully refurbished, and is super comfortable, with a lovely atmosphere, and cleaner than clean! Very private, with amazing views of the surrounding countryside, and the new owners are so friendly, and eager to ensure that their guests have an extra special stay. We opted to have our evening meals cooked for us (good country food), however the cottage is well set up for self catering, if that is what you prefer. 'Real' coffee is available, and you can purchase sandwiches or snacks from the newly opened kiosk. It also occurred to us that Hale River Homestead would make the perfect location for a wedding, with so many choices of accommodation, beautiful gardens and catering on offer...and a three night Cottage stay would make the perfect wedding present for the bride and groom! We can highly recommend this station stay, and we ourselves cannot wait to return!

We camped for 2 nights in our camper van under the trees by the green lawn at this outback working station. The bathrooms were austere but had fabulous showers(essential). We cooked one meal and ate with the family in the workshop/ kitchen meals area for the other meal.. A treat to meet some "hands on" locals, and a fabulous meal also. Lyn advised on local drives and activities..which we enjoyed..allowed us to look at the old homestead..beautifully set up for group hire. Hale River Homestead was a good place to spend a few days relaxing.

If you truly want a beautiful outback experience, Hale River Homestead is the place to go. It has a wide range of accommodation as listed on their website. We took our off road caravan there for 5 nights. There is so much to see and do such as drives to Ruby Gap, D\Nhala Gorge and Arltunga Historical Reserve to name a few, or just relax and do nothing! Very friendly people running the place and there is even a kiosk!

Room Tip: There is a range of accommodation consisting of the Homestead, Cottages and camping sites.

There's something very special about this beautiful place - the expansive sky, excellent tracks, the smell of the dirt, the lake that's walking distance from the campground. I spent much of my time walking around the lake and it's quiet & peaceful.

Stay for 2 or 3 nights because one just isn't long enough to really breathe it in. Yes, you need a 4WD to deal with the dirt roads but it's worth it.
