Finally stayed in Room 38 for two nights after two other rooms were rejected due to cleaning issues and broken handles on cupboards. At the top of the stairs, right above the kitchen with the stair door propped open we were greeted with a very strong charcoal smoke smell each evening and fried bacon smell in the mornings. We closed the door to limit the smell but the staff obviously opened it again. The extractor hood in the kitchen must need replacing as on the ground floor there were fans everywhere trying to blow the smoke away, but there was a smoke haze throughout the restaurant ceiling and beyond. Luckily we sat outside on both nights to escape the smell. We have stayed in many Best Western hotels worldwide but this one does not measure up to the standard quality hotel rating, let alone a BW Plus.
The staff were very good in trying to do their best under the not so good conditionsMore
