The island is OK, but not that beautiful. The snorkeling is not great either. OK for a half day trip if time is an issue (only half day), but if there are more time and funds definitely better to go deeper in the reef, the coral and snorkeling/diving is so much better there, not even close

Green Island is a must.
Amazing views and beach as long as you don’t go in the Stinger season and you can’t go into the sea.
It is very busy and touristy.
If you are looking for a quiet place this is not the place to visit.

The island itself was a stopping point en route to the Outer Reef.
The central area is well done with a boardwalk and a handful of small shops. But as each ferry lands it just gets more and more crowded. Pleased that time on the island was only a couple of hours.

What did make this visit unique was taking a Heli ride off the island and across the Reef. The only way to appreciate it fully, is from the air. This was an incredible experience and would thoroughly recommend you do this ... the reward far outways the cost! To see the island and Reef from above is truly spectacular and a lifetime experience. Simply, remarkable.

The island: beautiful, great tours such as glass bottom boats with great visibility, seawalking, semi submersible glass boats and paragliding. Lots of lovely fish and great staff throughout the island.
HOWEVER
The experience:
Certain tourists completely ruin the experience and are rude and disgusting - let me elaborate with some of the experiences I had today.
1 - to get a selfie an older woman (50s) tried to sit on my baby bump so that she could get in the photo. I don't mean she tried to lean on me as I was in the seat next to all her friends - I mean she lifted on leg and tried to put her bum on my baby bump til I shoved her off in shock.
2. I had gotten a chair for my brother in law to sit on from a syack of available chairs nearby. As he stood up for one second to peer over the table at a bird walking by our table an older woman (50s) whipped a chair from under him and sat on i instead of just getting her own.
3. The toilets are disgusting. Despite signs in multiple languages saying no spitting, standing over toilet and to put used toilet paper in the bin many don't. My morning sickness returned in full force when I walked into a stall with bloody and fecal covered tissues stacked in a bin next to the toilet and spilling all over the floor.
4. Spitting. That horrible hawking phlegmy spitting. Many people are doing it everywhere even in front of where you 're walking. One pair of older women even kept spitting and shouting over an Indian couple until the Indian couple trying to eat were so disgusted they got up and moved. Then these spitting, shouting women took their seats smiling.
5. Total abuse of the coral. They don't care about the wildlife and seem only interested in getting their selfies. Snorkelling I saw big chunks of finger corals being kicked off. The reef is really really dead now where you can snorkel.

So whilst green island is a beautiful place it is ruined by the tourists of which there are thousands. So if you have the patience of a saint, don't mind fecal matter and blood on toilet floors and have no issue with spitting you will be fine. If not try somewhere else along the reef.
