We stayed here for 4 nights in February and it was the best hotel on our 3 week Australia trip. The accommodation was lovely and spacious, with a Balinese feel. Great location, within walking distance of restaurants/shops but at the end of the main street very close to the beach, so nice and quiet. We used the bbq one night (with some help from Chris and Leanne!) and had some fantastic days out to the Daintree and Cape Trib, despite it being very hot and humid. Only slight downside was that many of the shops and restaurants were closed in Feb/Mar due to the season, but the town was still lovely. We would definitely recommend the apartments, as well as the drive from Cairns along the stunning coastal road (worth stopping at one of the beaches, especially first thing in the morning when it's beautifully peaceful, but beware of the crocodiles!)

We spent 3 nights in Port Douglas at the end of January 2012 and it turned out to be the highlight of our trip. Not only was our room wonderful but our hosts Antonia and Fred were gracious and welcoming and also helped us book our snorkeling day on the Quicksilver to the outer reef. A day we will never forget. They know their stuff and we had an amazing time - from the restaurants to the areas attractions. We had day trips to the Daintree National Park/ Cape Tribulation of which Fred and Antonia knew all of the hikes, restaurants etc..
We had a kitchenette in our one bedroom as well as AC, free Wi-Fi, indoor parking and laundry facilities are downstairs. The place is spotless, very niceley furnished and the location is in between the beach and the town stores and restaurants We would definitely go back and would certainly recommend it.

Room Tip: We had room #16 on the top floor which we loved but as there is no elevator you would need to carry the luggage up. We are both in shape and it was no problem - Fred helped us as well.

Located at the quiet end of Macrossan Street, which is just perfect if you don't want to be living on top of restaurants or like to hear the birds chattering about the day they've had as the sun goes down!! Just a 5 minute walk up to the eateries and shopping and 5 minutes to the beach, the one bedroom apartment was exceptionally clean and comfortable with A/C and fans. The apartment also has a small kitchenette with everything you'd need to make light meals. Fred and Antonia were warm, chatty hosts who are very knowledgeable and made great suggestions on sightseeing in the area. There is no lift to take you to the top floor but Fred was very willing to carry our bags up. There are also wheelchair-friendly rooms with a nice courtyard. Really could not fault this accommodation at all and comes highly recommended. We hope we are fortunate to be able to return to Port Douglas one day and we know where the perfect accommodation is.

Room Tip: Request a lower floor apartment if you don't want to walk up stairs as there is no lift.

We stayed at Martinique on Macrossan in November 2011 as part of a two and a half month trip to Australia - hence not having the opportunity to submit a review sooner. I echo all the wonderful compliments already submitted about this property - Fred and Antonia are perfect hosts and went out of their way to ensure that our stay was memorable from he moment we arrived. Our one bedroom apartment was spotlessly clean and very well appointed with comfortable tropical style furnishings and a small secluded balcony. The shower was excellent and although we didn't do any cooking (other than toast for breakfast), the kitchen was well stocked with basic cooking equipment.

We wanted to visit the Daintree Rainforest, Cape Tribulation and the Great Barrier Reef while we were here so we asked Antonia for her recommendations - she perfectly understood what we were looking for and her recommendations could not have been better suited to our needs. We book with Tony's Tropical Tours for the Daintree, and were lucky enough to have Tony himself as our guide - a botanist with a passionate enthusiasm for nature that is highly infectious. If you like small personalised tours this is for you - we were joined by only two other couples. The day included a cruise on the crocodile infested Daintree River, a walk in the Daintree Rainforest, a visit to the stunningly beautiful Thornton Beach, lunch in a treehouse, a refreshing swim (no crocs!) and finally a visit to Cape Tribulation. Tony was an excellent host and delightful company.

The other tour Antonia recommended was on board Aquarius - a beautiful 65ft catamaran sailing out of Port Douglas to the Lower Isles at the great Barrier Reef. Our skipper Drew was a fabulous guide with a great source of knowledge and huge respect for the marine environment. This is a great day out in a small group offering a highly personalised experience - avoiding the massive tour boats operated by other companies. Lunch on board was exceptionally good and you can bring your own wine on board to enjoy a sundowner en route back to harbour at the end of the day. Lovely!

I cannot recommend Martinque on Macrossan highly enough - we travelled around Australia and stayed in many unique and special places but on reflection on our return to the UK this property (and hosts) was our favourite.

We stayed at the Martinique on Macrossan in Port Douglas for just one night on January 10, 2012, frankly because the other property we had looked at on the Internet was not available for three nights. The apartment style room was clean and comfortable with an effective A/C unit. The property was a tropical garden, quiet and beautifully maintained with a small private pool. We loved the location, in easy walking distance from the beach and the town stores and restaurants. The free Wi-Fi Internet connection in the lobby actually worked from our room, and had a reliable, fast connection, a problem in some of our other stops. For us though, the highlight of the property was the owners. Antonia and Fred could not have been more friendly, hospitable or helpful. Despite our short stay, they provided lots of good practical advice on the town, sightseeing, restaurants and reef tours. They booked trips for us. They allowed us to use their towels on our next day excursion and keep our car in their garage. We even met them the next day at a restaurant they had suggested (and the food was excellent). If we were to return to Port Douglas, we would certainly stay at the Martinique again.
