Fred and Antonia made this the stress free, peaceful and relaxing holiday we were after. Firstly, the location is unbeatable. Its a 1 minute stroll to the beach or into town but somehow manages to be away from the noise and crowds. There is undercover parking for your car that is locked up safely behind a roller door at night but you can still access it if your coming and going in the wee hours. The room we had was ground floor and even though it was right next to the pool it was VERY quiet. Unlike some hotels that say "child free" but then allow them at their discretion this truly was an adult hotel. You can float in the pool safe in the knowledge that a screaming toddler isnt about to fling themselves into the pool and ruin your day. The room was clean, spacious and had everything we needed in our little kitchenette to make ourselves some meals and there is an outdoor bbq in the courtyard if you feel like dining outside in the gorgeous weather. There is also a laundry for guests on site so you dont have to lug any washing to a laundromat. The best thing about the Martinique though is definately the hosts, Fred and Antonia. They will answer any queries you have about restaurants and tours (HONESTLY, which was such a refreshing change from other tour operators) and we found they were spot on with all their recommendations. My only tip would be to remember to shut your windows at night, Far North Queensland is mozzie territory and as theres no screens you might get a few bites after dark. Wonderful stay, thankyou!

Room Tip: We had ground floor room next to pool. Very quiet, away from reception and stairs and has its own private little entrance to pool.

Antonia and Fred were nice hosts but we found the room very dissapointing. We had to leave the louvre windows open to let light in which also let insects and lots of noise in. It was quite a haul up three flight of stairs due to no lift. So much for being 'no kids' the proximity to other apartments (and the open louvres) meant that it was very noisy. I would not stay in summer. However the location to the beach, shops and restaurants was fantastic and it was very well priced.

We had a wonderful time in Port Douglas in the lovely oasis at the Martinque. Fred & Antonia were a delight & assisted us in trip advice & booking of our reef trip. The apartment was wheelchair accessible & it was easy to wheel to the beach, shops & restaurants. We can't wait to return & escape the winter cold again!

M on M was a great place to stay. Incredibly convenient to the village, short walks pretty much everywhere. Especially the beach, which Is just at the end of the street. Accommodation was spacious enough, with good use of small balcony and quality bed. The accommodation, was more than sufficient value, but the real benefit came from the hosts. Fred and Antonia gave good advice and helped us sort through the plethora of choices for reef tours, restaurants etc. This friendly and accurate local knowledge and guidance was fantastic and meant the choices we made of things to do were well informed, and really enjoyable. We felt at home here. The amenity was good, water features, pool, BBQ area added to the relaxed ambience. We would stay here again. Noise was a minor issue at night as M on M was sufficiently towards the quiet end of MacCrossan St.

Port Douglas was pretty busy and bookings for restaurants worth doing. From here we had easy trips to Kuranda and Daintree and hinterland. A car hired from Cairns helped a lot, and let us get out of the village.

Four of us booked two rooms for eight nights in June/July 2012. The location is perfect, and we would not stay in a place that was not walking distance from the beach and the shopping/restaurant precinct, criteria which Martinique satisfied fully. We went for a long walk on the beach (100 metres away) every morning, followed by breakfast in our rooms courtesy of the kitchenette in the rooms. We were able to stroll to shops, cafes, restaurants and the marina, and hired a car twice from an outlet about 100 metres away for longer excursions to Cairns, Kuranda, Mossman and The Daintree. Fred and Antonia were most helpful. We would definately stay at Martinique again.
