The stay in the desert view apartment was great..enough space under the earth..everything well equipped and nice and friendly owner couple. Worth staying at least two nights. The village is worth seeing with the old mine town and the fantastic churches underneath the earth too.

I visit far north SA on business about eight times a year and stay for one to two weeks. Desert view was recommended by a co-worker. The apartments are quiet and secure, a couple of minutes from the main street, large, unique and clean.
The hosts are relaxed and make a real effort to make each stay an excellent one.
I'm happy to keep coming back and would recommended visiting, whether for a night or as a base to explore the region.

Room Tip: A couple of the apartments are larger, for families. One has three big bedrooms.

We booked a night here in October. When we arrived at Desert View Apartments we went to check in, but check in was shut although there Sign said they should be open. We called a number and one answered. This was very frustrating as we had been driving for 6 hours and had a 1 year old who was ready for bed and crying. We decided to go and get tea as we didn't know how long we'd be waiting. We can back an hour later and still no one was there at reception. By this time more people where trying to check in with no luck. We called the number again and after 5 times calling a lady answered and said they she is out doing her shopping and have tea out and we will have to wait until they are finished to get into our room. By this time it's 8pm at night. I was so frustrated by this point as she didn't seem to care or was in any hurry to get back. She then passed the phone to her husband or partner who told us to find somewhere else to stay if we didn't want to wait. When they arrived back 1/2 hour later, they where very rude and angry at us for me frustrated that we couldn't check in!!

As for the rooms, they are very old and musty and the queen bed we slept in has a huge dip in the middle which was very uncomfortable. There where bugs and lizards running around on the walls which was gross.

I definitely would not recommend this place to stay. It's the worst place I've ever stayed and rudest owners

The hosts were friendly and very helpful. The apartment had a large kitchen, dining and lounge area. We had 2 bedrooms. The apartment are old and look a bit tired, but they are clean and have everything you want in it. For only $130 a night, it was very reasonable. Would recommend these apartments to anybody. They are very good value for money.

On a fast trip from north to south, Coober Pedy is a good stopover between Alice Springs and Adelaide. We just wanted a good night's sleep, and were delighted to find a huge and comfortable king size bed waiting for us at Desert View Apartments. The location is about 2km out of town, partly underground at the mountains/desert end of town. The apartment appears a bit old, shabby and in desperate need of refurbishment but it was absolutely CLEAN and had everything you might need in the tidy kitchen. Two bedrooms, sleeping at least 4 people, with a good kitchen/dining room, loungeroom with TV, and bathroom, it's perfect for a family to stay a few days at this iconic part of Australia. $130 a night, and there are several cafes/restaurants and pubs in town. Very friendly helpful owners too.
