We used last minute.com and selected their 5* secret hotel. It ended up being this hotel. View from room wasn't bad considering price, we could see the Yarra and mcg, etc. Bed was lovely, bathroom had its own bath. Very clean. Buffet breakfast down stairs was $40 per person, $$$ but the huge selection was excellent. No lunch for us! Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne during May. The weather in Melbourne was horrid, but went shopping anyway to get some winter clothes that we do not get in Brisbane. Stayed on floor 29, king club room. Great bed, bathroom was clean and neat, the room had plenty of space, and a high building in credenza type thing was handy for keys, phone chargers etc. Had a little table with sofa for relaxing on. No desk, but I was not there for work. But if I was it was a bit lacking. The room was hot, and the bed had no top sheet, just the doona, which I am not really a fan of.

Really liked the club lounge on floor 31, where you could go for breakfast, tea & coffee/water and snacks during the day, and read the paper in the quiet... very good idea
The pool was clean, and the spa was gorgeous, I would have loved a massage or facial at the spa, but no time. All in all our trip to Melbourne was great.
The restaurant "On Collins" was really expensive, we had dinner elsewhere at Southbank, but $12 for a glass of wine is pretty exxie, but the seafood risotto was really nice.

Room Tip: we stayed floor 29 overlooking collins street, 2905 and it was very nice

Dear Kaye H,
Having Grand Club Lounge access is such a great benefit, especially after a hard day’s shopping. It’s the perfect spot to relax, enjoy a coffee and take in the amazing views from the 31st floor. We are sorry to hear you didn’t get a comfortable night’s sleep – we will certainly raise the issue of temperature with our Engineering team to follow up. For a future stay, please do not hesitate to let our Housekeeping team know you would like a top sheet – we are always very happy to provide extra linen or pillows to make your stay more comfortable.

Location and gym are the key selling points. Very convenient for most business meetings. Gym is very good as its actually a commercial gym as opposed to your normal hotel gym. Pool is poor though- indoors but tiny, so can't do laps. Breakfast is not great- generally I think Melbourne has nice food (and great coffee)- both are more of a 3 star hotel standard. It looks great but is just average. Rooms are ok in terms of size- butt hey miss out on the basics- not great toiletries (i would have expected better for a grand hyatt)- I even had an empty shave kit box. Very difficult to get the temperature right in the shower. No cofee maker etc. Overall a fairly forgettable grand hyatt- and not on par with say grand hyatt tokyo. Comparable hotels across asia (especially for the brand/price) manage to get it right- not sure why Aussie equivalents fail.

My wife and I stayed for four nights in a Grand King Suite. We were in Melbourne on business but extended over the weekend. A bit extra cost but we reckoned worth it. The suite is large and the staff were very attentive. We were able to go in and out of the Club Lounge for breakfast and other times during the day and pick up drinks, fruit, etc. The staff have had service drummed into them and they really do try to offer extra levels of service. The only issue we had was the price of Collins Kitchen restaurant. The food was very good quality but expensive ($141 for two people with no alcohol). We found after the first night we walked down Flinders Lane for dinner. In Flinders Lane between Swanston St and Elizabeth St there were heaps of really nice eating places and a lot cheaper than the in-house restaurant. Just watch your timing. Don't try to be quick because we found they are mostly packed out between 5.00pm and 9.00pm and you might have to wait a little while. You can also walk up Russell St (Grand Hyatt is on the corner of Collins and Russell) to Burke St and down to the Mall for plenty of eating and shopping options.

Room Tip: Ask for a room higher up and on the southern side of the building as the views over the Yarra and Po...

Dear Graham,
Melbourne has some great places to eat and relax – and as you discovered, Grand Hyatt Melbourne is within walking distance of some great hidden (and not so hidden!) restaurants and bars. It is disappointing that you felt our restaurant charges to be expensive, however, as you point out, the quality of the food shines through. We locally source our produce, and take pride in showcasing the best of what Victoria has to offer.

Most comfy beds in Melbourne. Fabulous location if you are traveling on business. Service can be a tad slow. Great bathrooms with a lovely big bath. Gym is really busy as you don't have to be a guest to use it. Given Melbourne bars are so fantastic you won't want to get up to go to the gym anyway!
