Description: Welcome to Longrain, Melbourne. Our menu brings together South East Asian influences with the best Victorian produce. Inspired by the communal eating philosophy of the Asian table, our menu is made up of dishes created for sharing. Large servings and communal tables encourage the spirit of eating together, so you can try each dish as part of a full tasting experience, just as it was intended. The wine and cocktail list is created to work in harmony with the menu's intense and aromatic flavours.

This is a very popular restaurant at the Spring St end of Melbourne's China Town. Very busy and only takes bookings for large groups. However, there is a great bar where you can get pre dinner drinks if you have to wait for a table. The wait is worth it, as the food is excellent. I have been here at least 4 or 5 times and never disappointed. A good range and caters well for gluten free and dairy free and vegan. Noisy at times but still possible to have a good conversation. Also caters well for pre theatre groups.

We were initially told that there would be a 45 minute wait for a table, after reading reviews we decided to wait it out and see what the fuss was all about. After 10/15 minutes and a pleasantly small prawn bar snack ($6) we were seated at a large round table. You will share a table with other guests if in twos and not sat at the bar, but the restaurants dark intimate setting still means that you can have a romantic relaxed dinner. We ordered the whole filleted crispy snapper ($54) upon the recommendation of our lovely waitress. The fish was served with a chilli and tamarind sauce which complemented the salty coating. This was the stand out dish of the whole meal and presented beautifully. We accompanied this with the Asian broccoli dish ($16) and rice ($3pp) both delicious and this was comfortably enough food for two people. Would definitely recommend to friends and visit again if in Melbourne.

Melbourne is a great place for food lovers, and Longrain is one of the best restaurants in town! During our visit to Australia, we went there for our first meal, and, after trying so many other great places, still went back again for our final meal, because we loved it so much. There's so much to praise: the Betel leaf with pomelo, green papaya, peanuts & coconut; the Yellowfin tuna tartare with green chilli nahm jim & crispy wonton; the Green curry of hapuka with baby corn & Thai basil; and the Green papaya salad, snake beans, peanuts & dried shrimp. The dessert is also amazing: a palm sugar ice cream with taro and coconut. Overall, a delight for the senses!
