We absolutely loved the cruise! The guides were really nice and friendly. They explained everything about the boat and the dolphins in the beginning.
We had to search the dolphins for approximately 2,5 hours, but the guides didn't gave up. Finally we found a group of at least 20 individuals. They were jumping around the boat, which was really amazing! Unfortunately, we couldn't go swimming with them, because they had a baby with them. But their safety is more important than taking a swim with them. Anyways, we were happy that we saw them. They are so beautiful creatures! The cruise was totally worth it.

Great afternoon, beautiful day, half day cruise but don't count on there being fresh sandwiches and muffins on board as advertised as they were not available! With a four hour cruise starting around lunch time a little more than light snacks should be available as advertised. Cold non-alcoholic drinks and tea and coffee available, however, no decafe coffee. Catering very disappointing. Crew very good.

I decided to do this trip to " hole in rock" and hopefully spot a dolphin or two. With our skipper, Toira and crew of 4 lovely ladies, Ebony, Lara, Tahlia and Fly we set sail. After calling into Russell to board a few more passengers we set sail. I could babbly fir hours how good this cruise was. We saw an abundance of playful dolphins, heaps of surface fish, NZ sealions and outstanding scenery, not to mention the " hole in the rock" in which we actually sailed through. Omg, best cruise ever! Great commentaru by Toira and caring info and help from the ladies. By the way, the boat " dolphin explorer" was as comfy as you want. Recommend this to all and i thought extreme great value for money.

Using the ferry service between Paihia and Russel is a quick service. Ferry runs frequently, took the ferry across to Russel for dinner and managed to take the
Last ferry at 10 pm. Otherwise sleeping on park benches would be an alternative.
Cost was $24 return per adult

We went on the 5 hour cruise out to the Hole in the Rock on one day, and the 4 hour dolphin watching cruise on the second day. We did not see any dolphins on day one, so we got a voucher for a free trip on day two - you can't be fairer than that. The first day was quite rough and before the trip started the captain gave dire warnings and about half the people disembarked. I found the rough seas exciting and exhilarating, and provided you sat still, no problem at all. We saw many birds and islands - but sadly no dolphins. Tea and cakes were provided at a stop. The second day was much calmer, and plenty of dolphins swimming close to the boat, so that was enjoyable for a different reason, The Bay of Islands is one of the nost beautiful parts of New Zealand and really needs to be seen from a boat.
