We were so delighted with Cook's Lookout that we extended our stay from three to six days. We had travelled New Zealand and Australia for the previous two months and immediately knew that Paihia and Cook's Lookout was the ideal location to chill out.
The Motel site, grounds and room, are kept spotlessly clean, Our room had a fabulous vista down over the estuary to Paihia and further over the sea to Russell. Magnificent views by day and stars so close at night when it was pitch dark, you almost felt you could pluck them from the sky. We enjoyed the Maori Experience, made use of the ferry over to Russell a couple of times and drove up the coast to Keri-Keri and further up to Doubtless Bay. Charlotte's Restaurant was one of the ones recommended by our hosts and it was the best!

Room Tip: The further up the hill the better the view but they all seemed to be good that way.

I enjoyed an awesome stay with my small dog at Cooks Lookout Motel. Shelagh and Norm are wonderful hosts and the views from this motel are simply stunning. Quiet, clean, spacious units are very well equipped. I loved the location. I will definitely be back for another visit. (My little dog loved it too).
PS go and check out Norm's sense of humor!

I travel all over the world and there are only a few features in a hotel that I consider essential: a comfortable bed and pillows, good shower pressure, temperature, and drainage, and cleanliness. If there is a good view, that’s a bonus. The Cook’s Lookout Motel has all those characteristics, and indeed the view from (I believe) all of the motel’s rooms is simply spectacular. The owners are a genial couple who persuaded me to stay an extra night on the basis that there was too much to do in Paihia to spend only a half day or day there, and they were right! The treaty grounds and museum alone can take up a whole day; I also took the ferry to Russell. All in all, the hotel was great value for the money.

We stayed two nights with my Mum at the Cook's Lookout Motel and we had never experienced such a view from our bed before! The location is extremely quiet, surrounded by nature and Norm & Shelagh are absolutely lovely hosts - always there for a good tip or to organize a daily trip. We loved our stay and would definitely recommend it.
