Okay right off the back, I have to say that our host made the entire night AWESOME! One of the members of our group was selected as the "chief" of the night and that was the joke of the night. From the authentic way they cook their food to the entertainment, everyone in our group enjoyed themselves.
The music during their performances were awesome! The power and harmony in their songs is something that still resonates with me. The lead person in the show made us laugh while giving a great educational background of Maori culture.
Dinner was in a heated tent (it was about 3 degrees C that night) buffet style. The food, desert, and drink was the best I had in my entire stay in NZ. After dinner, our host took us on a very educational guided walk around the area. We saw cold water springs, Maori homes and tools, and even glow worms!
*Being from Hawaii, I think it was easy to draw parallels from Hawaiian culture to that of the Maoriʻs. The "chief" of the night was from our group. The host allowed his to do a talk in Hawaiian language and the rest of us to chant in Hawaiian which made the night for all!
Mahalo nui loa to the host of the Mitai Maori Village as well as the dining workers, performers, and all staff for a memorable night!
