We basically came to New Plymouth for one reason, which was to see Mount Taranaki. The grey skies meant that we didn't even get a glimpse of the big mountain, so unexpectedly the highlight of our one night stay ended up being our accommodation at the lovely One Burgess Hill!
One Burgess Hill is a little bit out of town, in an amazing location right next to the river, overlooking a bank of ferns. We stayed in a deluxe/elite studio with a huge bath tub placed to take in the view out the floor to ceiling windows. The apartment was ultra-modern with a great kitchen and bathroom.
There is also a gym on the grounds, along with a few resident farm animals.
It's not far to drive from One Burgess Hill to the pretty Lake Mangamahoe, which has beautiful landscaped gardens, plenty of water birds and, according to the pictures, great views of Taranaki on a nice day. The town itself has a nice vibe and the Govett-Brewster gallery is worth a visit.
Overall a very relaxing stay, and the owner certainly made us feel welcome.More
