After a tiring day travelling, decided to walk along the foreshore & came to this fish & chip shop-had fish & chips served on a tray and it was so good!! Went back again a couple of nights later and absolutely full (jazz festival)so waited for 3/4 hour but worth it, took it back to hotel . Seems they have their won boat so fish is as fresh as!!!

Recommended by a local, stopped by for lunch of fish and chips. Order and pay at the cashier, then wait for you number. Wait was about 15 minutes. VERY casual. Find seating outside or take food home with you. Delicious lunch.

This is, by far, the best fish and chips stand I have ever experienced. It all starts with good quality ingredients. The fish is fresh and the batter is light and crispy. Everything is served wrapped in butcher paper, which insulates to keep everything nice and hot! Group picnic tables are set up inside and outside along the wharf.

We came here for lunch after seeing other offerings in the centre. Ordering for a newbie was a little complicated, however I persevered and asked the assistant what the process was. She explained you could order just fish and chips which I assume is fish of the day for a very good price. If I remember correctly for 2 including a soft drink was around $12 probably the cheapest meal we ate in NZ. There is a bit of a wait but every order is cooked fresh so I have no complaints there. It was a hot day so sitting in the open wasn't for us we sat in the protected area. You can also choose from the fresh fish and have that cooked for you however that makes a significant difference to the price.

Good quality fish and perfect chips.
Oysters are too salty. (if you buy them in pot)
Sauce or condiments are expensive to buy.
Orders can take more than half an hour.
Staff can be unhelpful.
Recommend. Get in before lunch and well after dinner. Take serviettes.
Note. It is fried in beef tallow or dripping. ( Animal fat )
