I am all for the occasional degustation. But this place is just not backing up their tiny tiny portion sizes with enough flavour. We chose 4 dishes from the menu here and then left to find dinner... Not a single item we ordered was even a standard entree size, everything was a wee bite or two (very hard portions to share - which is the reccomended dining style, and which I'd generally love).
Our $18 bowl of tofu was particularly dissappointing - about 5 tablespoons of chopped tofu in soy sauce with some chilli and sesame. I have never felt ripped off when dining out before, but this was the most expensive tofu I have ever eaten - and it was only flavoured with kitchen basics.
As vegetarians, we could have easily eaten the whole menus offerings and would still have left hungry.
We thought could have easily spent $200 here before feeling like we'd actually eaten well.
Funky space though, good service and great Japanese drinks - menu design is just not pulling through.
