Ok in you don't mind walking up hills. Great views, can be windy. Lots of places to picnic and take in the view. Interesting site info.

Enjoyed our adventure to some island. The ferry ride was great and a new experience for our kids. The island is pristine, the doc staff and volunteers are passionate about what they do. The views from the island back to Wellington was fantastic. We all (9 of us aged 8 - 48) enjoyed our visit to the island and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

We visited this island on a guided tour (although you can visit without a guide). Our guide was smelly, had dirty clothing and did not seem very knowledgeable. We had been led to believe that we would see lots of wildlife. As it turned out we saw a couple of parrots and a couple of skinks.
There were, however, nice views across to Wellington.

Moitu/Somes island provides historic value and a wildlife sanctuary in Wellington harbor. After a brief introduction to the island and a bio-screening of bags and shoes to prevent introduction of vermin and foreign plants to the island, visitors can stroll well-maintained paths around and across the island. Many of the paths provide beautiful vistas of the harbor and the surrounding hills, and many picnic sites and benches. There are many birds, including some less common types of shags, as well as blue penguins. To see the latter an overnight stay may be necessary, although we saw two floating offshore in the late afternoon. Visitors can see the entire island at a comfortable pace in about three hours.

went over on a windy sunny day, great visit and wind wasnt an issue over there, boat trip is cheap and good, staff were brilliant and helpful, showed us stuff and knew all the answers to any questions. Highly recommended.
