Just off the plane from UK we stayed here for 2 nights. Quiet, impeccably clean, and yet central to Sumner - you're just 2 mins stroll from wonderful beach, fish n chips, restaurants, cafes, supermarket and bakery. Bruce was very helpful with tips on what to see and where to eat, and on travel and transport, which made making the very final arrangements for our first trip to NZ very, very easy. The amazing breakfasts - vanilla yogurt and kiwi fruit, and the lightest croissants imaginable - gave us our first taste of summer for 5 months! Overall a wonderful introduction to New Zealand - cannot recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: First floor rooms with a balcony enjoy sea views. There is traffic noise but this didn't bother us, even w jet lag.

Dear Selina,
Martine and I are happy to hear that you enjoyed the "French Connection" we work hard to provide to our guests. Sumner is a special place and it does cater well to travellers like yourselves. We would love to see you again sometime.
In the meantime ..all the very best for the future.
We both send our kindest regards
Bruce & Martine

Le Petit Hotel is a really nice place, located in the Sumner village. The beach is very close by, and it has some good restaurants (we preferred 'Salt'). The owners (Martine and Bruce) are really nice and helpful people. The rooms are nice and tidy, with a great bathroom and a good bed. The balcony with beach/sea-view is lovely. We travelled by bike to Christchurch and did some trips to the Gondola (Evans Pass Road) and Taylor's Mistake (tip!). The breakfast was really nice and has a French touch with the croissant :-) Thanks for the lovely (X-mas) days there!

Room Tip: Rooms at the road-side do have a beach/sea-view. Negative thing is that you can hear the traffic (even with closed doors).

buildings fitted out to a high standard, nice continental breakfast, comfortable rooms. gives the impression of a high end B&B but without the absurd price tag. we found it very good value overall and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would rate Le Petit as the best accommodation on the south side of town in the $100 to $150 a night range - I will stay there whenever I visit Christchurch from now on.

Room Tip: don't worry about noise in the rooms facing the street, you can't hear anything.

Le Petit Hotel is exactly what you would expect.
It is small, friendly, cozy just like home away from home.
The hotel is French style, including the perfect breakfast croissants, and is in Sumner, a resort style quarter in the suburbs of Christchurch.
The location is quite far from the city center, but there is an excellent bus service to take you wherever you need. Buying a Metro card will make your travel to the city and back easy.
The room we got was spacious and comfortable. The floor was covered with thick carpets and the room was completely sound insulated. If you like to hear music and not disturbing your neighbors, it is perfect.
We were on the floor level and it was just perfect so that we didn't have to carry our huge suitcases upstairs.
The view from the top floor might be more exciting though.
Bruce is the perfect British host, nothing and nobody can beat his politeness and readiness to help you with anything.
Le Petit Hotel is a gem, enjoy it

Truly tiny (four room) custom built hotel serving homemade croissants at breakfast, owned by Christchurch's French consul and her NZ Scottish husband - truly the Auld Alliance . And remember to lavish attention on Cara, the resident terrier. Martine has deep hotel experience, and her attention to detail (and her authentic French antiques) shows a polish not often found off the beaten track.
