Our group dined at Cafe La Dolce Vita for dinner the night that we stayed in Te Anau before heading to the Doubtful Sound. Having visited Italy for a couple months their food was very authentic which surprised me being in one of the most southern parts of New Zealand. We had great service from the owner and all of the wait staff. Our food was excellent and they offered large portion sizes.

Te Anau gets hit with multiple bus tours that let out at the hotels and restaurants so just be cautious of where you try to eat as the wait times and service may be negatively affected in this instance. The night that we dined there were no large tour buses that stopped at Cafe La Dolce Vita.

Understaffed, bog standard Pasta dishes, basic restaurant with no finesse. Owner may be Italian, but his dishes are certainly the worst we've ever eaten, in any restaurant in New Zealand.

We went there for dinner with a couple pf friends and we all had a pizza.

One pizza was supposed to be with extra mushrooms. However when it arrived there were not mushrooms. When we gave the pizza back they just put some mushrooms on the pizza put it back again into the over for a few minutes and brought it back. The pizza was nice an crunchy after that.

After we finished the first bottle of wine, we wanted a second one, but could not get any staffs attention for a long time. Maybe it is different in NZ, if I order a bottle of wine, I do expect the first glass to be poured by the restaurant staff as it is done in any other country. However thay just put the bottle on the table and walked away. It was not one of the cheapest wines we ordered.

The restaurant was not even half full, it might even get worse if it is really busy.

Dropped in for a takeaway pizza on way back to hotel after a glow worm tour. Friendly greeting by the owner, watched the pizza chef assemble our pizza and cook in the wood fired oven, tasted great with just the right amount of toppings, pizza base was fantastic. Wish we were staying longer so we could go back.
