We walked in for dinner, were not met but a man shouted at us and pointed to an unset table. We sat at the table which had been badly wiped - there was some sticky substance dripping from the edge of the table.

The same man approached us with water, menus and started to tell us the specials. We immediately noticed his unkept appearance - his clothes were dirty and in need of ironing and his hair was matted. Whilst telling us the specials he proceeded to pick his nose right in front of us!

We left shortly afterwards.

We were directed to this Cafe by another place that couldn't seat us due to a bus tour filling the place. What a pleasant surprise, it was quiet so we could talk even though it was moderately busy each time we went there and we ended up going back several times. It was our eating place of choice during our Te Anau stay. The lamb roast was tender and the vegetables sauteed or lightly roasted. I enjoyed the grilled snapper although the second time I had it, it wasn't quite as good--the snapper was quite dry. But the curry sauce was just perfect for me. The burger was large and yummy and the sausages and mash with a vegetable side delicious. The chocolate mousse cake and caramel cheesecake were excellent. We will go back there for dinner next time we're in Te Anau.

Te Anau is the most beautiful place, we had just arrived there, myself from England and my friend a kiwi, so she was so disappointed that having travelled a fair distance from Queenstown, all we wanted was a nice cup of tea and a bite to eat! when our food and drink did arrive it was not good, the food was poor quality and the tea was cold.

Excellent food. Can recommend the Lamb roast platter for two. More than ample food. Tender lamb and a good selection of roast veges which also included salad. Service was friendly and food served promptly. The music played wuietly in the background and was not noisy. A quiet, pleasant and relaxing cafe with good food. Good value for money. Can't ask for more.

We came here twice, just after finishing the routeburn track, then the kepler track. Much enjoyed the yummy burger here after a few days of freezedried foods. Friendly staff, food is on the table very quickly. Nice local vibe.
