Owner description: Whangarei Quarry Gardens is a subtropical oasis created by volunteers in the remnants of a former quarry in Northland, New Zealand. The Gardens are open to the public and feature subtropical gardens, native forest walks, waterfalls, streams, quarry ruins, tunnels, a scented Camellia collection, a plethora of NZ native and exotic plant species and so much more... The Gardens are a work in progress and have been created through the blood, sweat, tears and laughter of volunteers, supporting companies and other interest groups. Entry is by GOLD-COIN DONATION, with all proceeds used to purchase plants and equipment. Thanks!

The volunteers have done a fantastic job with this garden. It meshes really well with the surrounding bush and you can see that it was built in a quarry. A map is available at reception. Only a gold coin donation. We enjoyed it so much we donated again on the way out. Another visitor in an electric wheelchair felt uncomfortable with the paths as the gravel was slippery, however, it might be fine on a chair being pushed by another person from behind. Look out for the quails!

The concept is splendid and without the dedication of fabulous volunteers this garden would not exist. Hats off to the amazing gardens established and maintained completely by wonderful volunteers.

Whangarei has a fantastic hidden treasure with their Quarry Gardens, with well maintained walking paths and seats positioned just right to take in the garden views. The cafe has fantastic coffee, food, service and lovely views.

Great peaceful place to visit. Loved the walk. Great new cafe is brilliant and the info centre building itself is very inovative. A must to do!
