This was the 2nd time we'd dined in the hotel - the first being several years ago. We remembered the friendly atmosphere and great food so couldn't wait to go back and found its still as good as we remembered. Maggie particularly enjoyed the seafood chowder and Brian enjoyed a bit of craic with Murray at the bar. There was no live music but some terrific videos being played. In winter, there's a wonderful log fire burning. The gardens are lovely, loads of parking - what more can you want. The Boyd family from Ireland settled in the area & there is a history board in the garden with the Boyd timeline. Interesting place, well worth a visit and a great choice for party celebrations.

Found by accident, so visited for a pre dinner wine, and stayed for a meal. The most tender lamb I've ever eaten, a fun night, quirky place, beautiful setting and an 1865 building. Owner spends time with guests, and enjoys himself more than the guests I'd think. Staff very helpful and friendly, service spot on and quick. A must visit if on the east coast of New Zealand

We were directed here when we looked for a place for overnight parking with a campervan. It was ideal, a good site and a good dinner of Irish Stew, also a big log fire - whether we needed it or not!

Stayed here before so went for dinner and found it to be as good as the first time. Small menu but great food and reasonable prices.

We heard on "Tourism Radio" that we could stay with our "self-contained" motor home at Donegal House so thought we'd give it a go ... Ideally situated close to Kaikoura yet far enough away so as not to be disturbed by the freight train line and the main road (as on other camp sites) .... We couldn't help being enticed by the Guinness and before we knew it we'd been drawn into the Irish hospitality and was enjoying lovely food in the bar. There are several duck ponds and fields with horses, altogether very picturesque ... Loved every minute x
