this hotel needs burning down, its a bad place to stay, when i arrived i could hardly get my case upstairs as the lift was not working, bed was damp, shower door was hanging off , during the evening it dropped off!!!!! i went to look for the fire exit for my own safety and when i found the exit door i checked to see if it would open and to my amazement there were no stairs outside just a 25 foot drop someone had also removed the fire extingisher, never again worst place i have ever stayed at and have stayed in about 30 places in tazmania since 2003

We were accidentally booked in to The Empire Hotel by our admin staff. We arrived and the staircase was stunning, something out of the history books. That and the restaurant/bar was about where the compliments end unfortunately. The rooms we had, had massive cracks in the walls, the paint work didn't match, their was a smell, the showers weren't clean and required shoes to be worn. It was poor backpacker accomm at best and doesn't look like they have tried to do anything to improve it in a very long time. The room was noisy due to drunk people from the bar downstairs leaving at a late hour. Even the hallways had big cracks in the walls. Would not stay again.

OK so its a pub so i guess you can really only expect pub grub. It wasn't even half decent pub grub, $17.00 for a horrible garlic prawns seventeeeeeeeen dollars australian. My steak was raw and cold my friends pork ribs were disgusting fatty and tasteless. The side salads and vegetables were much the same, seriously some of the worst most over priced food we have experienced in tassie so far. Dirty cold rooms.

Empire Hotel,

On our second night in Queenstown the choices of where to dine were very limited, so we checked out this establishment.

The building and entry to it is somewhat off putting however we fronted up at the bar and placed our order. While sitting waiting for our meals I looked around at other diners and there seemed to be a general air of enjoyment, which I’m happy to say also applied to our meals.

This is not ‘Master Chef’ or even ‘Come Dine with Me’ but my steak requested as rare arrived on the rare side of medium and my wife’s pasta dish was fully eaten which is always a good sign. Queenstown is in a time warp and this establishment is a major contributor to that state but we left feeling well fed and having had a value for money meal.

This hotel is like a ghost ship, with a superb face an loby, but if you go beyond the rooms suffer no improving since the building of the hotel.

The rate is very interesting but by having a room there you are only renting an uncomfortable mattress in a noisy atmosphere. The only usefull thing in the room is an insecticide spray, no glass, no drinkable water, no fridge.... Barely more comfortable than camping

Furthermore, the staffs is note trying to help you. So an advice, stay in Strahan and when you are passing in Strahan stop by to see the place.
