Description: Wasabi restaurant & bar, overhanging the scenic Noosa River, opposite the Noosa Recreation Reserve, is the brainchild of owner and Young Restaurateur of the Year Award recipient Danielle Gjestland. The entirely waterfront dining space has spectacular river views with amazing sunset vistas by day and a warm, contemporary, intimate dining space by night. Voted Queensland's #1 regional restaurant for the 2015 Good Food Guide, awarded two chefs hats, listed in Gourmet Travellers top 100 restaurants, and voted Queensland's Hottest Restaurant in the Australians Hot 50 List, Wasabi's food has a contemporary sensibility that is still deep rooted in Japanese purity.

Despite being bit of a pain to reserve a table (due to popularity and some funny opening times for reservations), it is definitely worth booking! The food and cocktails are delicious and the restaurant has beautiful views across the water. Great place for families, friends and date nights.

We had an amazing table right on the water. Our waitress was particularly attentive friendly and knowledgable. The food was outstanding and the beautiful wine complimented our lunch nicely. Overall a fantastic dining experience and a great way to celebrate a special occasion for us.

Some friends and I went to Wasabi for dinner while visiting Noosa after having it recommended by several people. The food was sadly disappointing and lacking in flavour. I've been to many Japanese restaurants in London and Australia (including traditional establishments where the emphasis is on less spice), and none of them had bland food. Service was also lacking which surprised me given the high prices. When asked how the food was we gave our honest feedback but this seemed to be glossed over by staff, as if we somehow must have 'got it wrong'. I've also noticed in some of the restaurant's responses to other reviews that restaurant management seem to treat anyone with negative feedback as a philistine. Perhaps if they took on board some of that feedback instead of attacking the people who gave it, then maybe there would be less negative reviews? Just a thought.

We started the evening with a Kinkan cocktail, a kind of cumquat margherita, which turned out to be the highlight of the evening. We chose the Omakase menu, which was unsophisticated, with too many distractions, that is, too many overpowering sauces. A major improvement would be to serve the sauces on the side. Best things on the menu included the ponzu-cured black kingfish, the smoked Spanish mackerel and the tea-smoked duck. We thought the portions of the Wagyu beef too big to suit chopstick dining, but the bone marrow sauce was excellent with the beef, and the final chocolate sorbet dessert was surprisingly sophisticated. All in all, a dining experience that began and ended well but was only average in the main.
