As I was staying in a room at the Posada Tintes Hostal- which by the way is also superb value- I decided to try the 'menu of the day' lunch menu at the restaurant.

For just 12€, this was indeed exceptional value. This was a three course menu with a choice of four items for each course. I opted for the starter of pasta salad, followed by fresh grilled whole sea bass and chips, with ice cream to finish. The price also included a glass of beer, bread, and a coffee - amazing!

The two young waitresses spoke some English and were eager to practice their language skills with me - delightful!

Unlike in the UK, language skills are given a high priority here and the younger generation all seem to learn English, though often don't have the confidence to speak it. In Cuenca, few adults seem to speak much English. However, they are very friendly and patient, so don't worry if you have to rely on phrase book Spanish, you will be fine!

Visited for a large family (9) meal on a Saturday night and were surprised at how relatively quiet it was. It of course meant that the staff were even more attentive. Most of us went for the 20€ gastronomic menu, with its 5 starters, including a great cod and potato dish and a game pate ( nice and chunky). Gigantic selection of main course and nice deserts. Some of the children are fussy eaters, which the restaurant kindly accommodated for by specially cooking plain pasta with tomato sauce, cheese and olive oil on the side. Great staff, great restaurant and good value !

This is not run of the mill, tourist, fodder, but a place slightly off the beaten track, where the locals go.The location is beside a stream in a quiet road at the foot of the descent from the historic centre, which is twenty minutes walk away. But you came to walk the old streets of Cuenca, didn't you?
We had the gastronomic menu at 20e a head. This includes a shared entrée with five dishes, fresh and varied. The second dish can be chosen from about a dozen offerings covering all tastes. Especially worthy of mention is the choice of wine from La Mancha, which presents possibly the best quality/price ratio in Spain and even the world. Forget the Rioja and Ribera and go for Canforrales Crianza at 9e or Fontal Crianza at 12e.
The atmosphere is genuinely homely and the service friendly and efficient. The offer of free after coffee shorts was not refused.

This being near the river is in fact some way from the old historic part of town and it took me sometime to find(the map provided was not very good). However the calories consumed will be mitigated by the walk up to the historic part of town as it is very hilly, with plenty of steps to take.
I must admit as an English person we do not usually eat at past 9pm at night, but this is the start of the Spainish evening. I was the first(after booking through email) person in the restaurante and was taking care of by one of the staff who went through their specialist regional menu(€20). You get a few starters to give you a taste for the cuisine and then you choose your main meal. The drink is not included, but my bill came to a total of €30 which included for the meal, drink and tip.
All I can say is go, worth every penny, you will not be dissapointed. By the end of my meal the restaurante was nearly full(around 10:30pm), full of locals.

We pre-booked so got a window table. The Posada is lovely and the restaurant is full of character. Two of us had three courses, wine and water and the bill was around 50 Euros. Great service too.
