This is a lovely traditional restaurant in Cuenca. They specialize in grilled meats and we had beautiful steak served on a hot plate. They also do a good range of tapas and salads. A bit tricky to find but it is in a pleasant courtyard. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. Highly recommend.

My husband and I had lunch there & we both had the "menu del dia" for 10 euros. The portions were huge & delicious. We both had the melon with ham, escalopes de cerdo & pudding. The presentation was lovely & service excellent.

This is a spot where all the locals eat. . true gem.
We got there at 8 30 pm and it was almost full....very popular.

1. post mancheo (Local dish)
2. wild asparagus
3. spring lamb cutlets

all good.

We were well cared for by Matteo who cared for us.
Well priced local food.

Sunday night in Cuenca out of season and their is not a huge amount of choice for places to eat out. The area that we ended up in was recommended by the owner of the apartment that we rented but number 2 and number 5 on the TA ratings were shut.
First pass of El Bodegon (rated at number 15 at the time of this review), was not particularly encouraging due to the location being adjacent to a pile of rubble loosely representing a house and a strong smell of sewer!
We continued around the block but found no better alternative and arrived back at this restaurant from the top end and into the unlikely courtyard area. Thankfully away from the smell and rubble.
Our waiter was characterful and dogmatic in his refusal to concede any quarter in regognition of our poor Spanish speaking skills. I picked up enough to muddle through the menu and we ordered a selection of dishes from the seemingly randomly arranged menu. Our waiter was pretty clear that we had ordered enough and he was right. The dishes came out at regular intervals, each was as delicious as the last and all huge. The stand outs were the pork fillets and the asparagus.
Four full bellies, two bottles of decent wine, bread, water and coffee all for under €85. Very good value for money.
Don't expect Michellin starred cooking but if you want to experience hearty honest food, then this is the place to go.

A hidden find! I had the lunch set that costs 10euros! Portions were huge and I was full by the second course.

The staff here doesn't speak English so we had to ask for the wifi password to use Google translate to order.

Bread & Tuna dish (not sure what this is, but it was given to us at the start)
Starter: bacons with artichoke
Main: meat balls with cheese
Dessert: homemade custard

Other items we tried were, lamb chops (goes by per unit) and pork ribs and cod fish. The lamb chops were small but filling. Pork ribs was cooked well and crispy. cod fish sauce was a little salty for my liking but still good!

Love the interior decor as well, very nice to chill out.
