Booked a meal here based on trip advisor reviews and we opted for the 6 course tasting menu at £30/ head.
This was as good as food gets anywhere- it amused our bouches and tickled our taste buds from starter to finish.
Beautifully presented, full of intense and complimentary flavours, excellent value.
The staff were great, informative, just the right level of attention and did not rush us
The restaurant was full (always a good sign) and everyone seemed to be enjoying their food and the ambience
Sadly, this pub/ restaurant is 190 miles from home, so we will not become regular visitors, but, my goodness, is it worth the good reviews it has been given.

The Poet has improved 10 fold since our first visit in 2015. Exceptional 3 course Sunday dinner and a fabulous selection of wine. Every course was delicately prepared and packed with flavour if you take the time to enjoy the subtle notes too. Highly recommended and the best restaurant within a 20 mile radius.

Had a fantastic Sunday lunch with the family. The beef was juicy with lots of flavour, the lamb succulent and a humble chicken was turned into a delicious dish. Starters and puddings were lovely too. Nice spacious layout, excellent staff and worth every penny.

Went to the Poet for their steak night on a Tuesday. I'm not a great steak lover but the whole meal was perfect. Beautifully cooked steaks with delicious vegetables, choice of sauces and carafe of good wine. Very attentive and friendly staff with drinks beforehand sat around a roaring fire. Excellent value for money in comfortable surroundings.

We stopped for a midweek lunch and enjoyed it so much went back for Sunday lunch a couple of days later.

A really pleasant smart pub environment with friendly service and truly exceptional food, we could find fault with no aspect of our entire experience there.

Offering a fixed price menu at lunch which was good value with a few specials on which meant you could have a less formal meal if wanted.

The menu has a great selection and I could have eaten just about everything on it. Don't normally go for smoked salmon but it was great as was my bream (with curry broth). The Sunday roasted were fab, best we've had for years.

Expect to pay appropriately, decent value for the quality, There is some good cooking going on here.

A new regular for us
