Las Vegas is a very pleasant restaurant located downtown in the tiny town of Sierpe. The restaurant has several tables located both inside and outside, along the Sierpe river. The food is good, the service is excellent, and it is fun to watch people and animals along the river. But BEWARE of the boats at the dock carrying passengers from SIERPE to DRAKE BAY, and from Sierpe to see the WHALES. These boats are not part of Las Vegas Restaurant, but they depart from the dock there. I was horrified. The captain did not give out a single lifejacket to anyone, and we crossed over the very DANGEROUS and unstable river mouth, overloaded with 26 passengers including a tiny baby. 3 days ago, , a public boat with 24 people flipped over at this same Sierpe river mouth, because the boat was overloaded. Although the boat did not have enough life jackets for everyone, miraculously no one died because another boat following immediately behind was able to pick up the survivors from the water. Our boat had even more people, 26 people in a boat licensed for 17 people, and we did not have a single life jacket! We were on a hotel boat. This was a day after the public boat flipped. We heard that the other boat had flipped before, 2 years ago, and we were told that more than 60 people have died in separate accidents at the Sierpe river mouth. No wonder, since they overload the boats and do not give out enough lifejackets. They don't seem to learn from all the deaths, or boats flipping over the day before, and the Costa Rica government does not exercise any control. So, if you value your life, stay away from the public boats and the hotel boats. How can you get to Drake safetly? Take an airplane, or take a private boat so you're not overloaded and check the lifejackets. Otherwise, write your will before you go.
